Action Packed New Trailer for ‘Flinch’ Promises Nonstop Thrills

0

The brand new trailer for thriller Flinch looks like an action-packed thrill ride that fans of the genre won’t want to miss! Directed by Cameron Van Hoy, Flinch stars Academy Award nominee Cathy Moriarty (Raging Bull), Daniel Zovatto (Penny Dreadful: City of AngelsIt Follows), Tilda Cobham-Hervey (Hotel MumbaiI am Woman), David Proval, Buddy Duress, and Tom Segura.

Flinch follows a young hitman, Joe Doyle (Zovatto), who is chasing his latest target, city council member Ed Terzian (Segura). When the councilman’s assistant Mia (Cobham-Hervey) witnesses Doyle commit a murder, he knows he should take her out but can’t bring himself to do it. Instead, he takes her back to his house, where he lives with his mother (Moriarty), while he figures things out. But things get complicated fast as Doyle falls for Mia, realizing quickly that there’s more to her than meets the eye.

Check out the trailer below!

Director Cameron Van Hoy said of Flinch, “Criminal characters are very different from the superhero film protagonists of modern day. Superheroes are superior prototypes what we aspire to be, while criminals are a version of ourselves, which we could easily become. Our sympathy for the criminal, I believe, comes from a deep understanding that morality is never black and white, but always shades of grey. We are never far from our id, our dark side, even as we strive for virtue in an era when all our feet are held to the fire of morality.”

Flinch will premiere on TVOD in January 2021.

New Cast Announced and Poster Revealed for ‘Sing 2’

0

There is a sequel to the 2016 animated movie Sing coming next year! The movie, titled Sing 2, will be released during the 2021 holiday season. And as an early gift, some new cast members were recently announced.

Rolling Stone revealed that Bono, Halsey, and Pharrell Williams had joined the upcoming animated movie Sing 2.  Bobby Cannavale, Letitia Wright, Eric Andre, and Chelsea Peretti are also joining the cast.

In the first movie, Buster Moon (McConaughey) organized a singing contest to help save his theater. Now, the theater is a success, and Buster has bigger plans.

You can read the official synopsis for Sing 2 below:

Buster and his cast have turned the New Moon Theater into a local hit, but Buster has his eyes on a bigger prize: Debuting a new show at the Crystal Tower Theater in glamorous Redshore City. But with no connections, Buster and his friends have to sneak their way into the world-famous Crystal Entertainment offices, run by a ruthless mogul wolf named Jimmy Crystal (Bobby Cannavale).

In a desperate attempt to get Mr. Crystal’s attention, Gunter spontaneously pitches an outrageous idea that Buster quickly runs with, promising that their new show will star lion rock legend Clay Calloway (Bono). The problem is, Buster has never met Clay, an artist who shut himself away from the world more than a decade ago after the loss of his wife and hasn’t been seen since.

As Gunter helps Buster dream up an out-of-this-world theatrical masterpiece, and the pressure (and sinister threats) from Mr. Crystal mount, Buster embarks on a quest to find Clay and persuade him to return to the stage. What begins as Buster’s dream of big-time success becomes an emotional reminder of the power of music to heal even the most broken heart.

The movie is written and directed by Garth Jennings and produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy. Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Taron Egerton, Tori Kelly, and Nick Kroll are all returning as their characters for the sequel.

Sing 2 will be released in theaters on December 22, 2021.

Review: Things Are Heating Up in ‘Tales from the Umbrella Academy: You Look Like Death’ Issue #4

Just in time for Christmas, Tales From the Umbrella Academy: You Look Like Death issue #4 has hit your local comic shops.

The story of Klaus Hargreeves from Gerard Way and Shaun Simon (The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys), You Look Like Death issue #4 features art by I.N.J. Culbard, lettering from Nate Piekos, and a cover by The Umbrella Academy‘s Gabriel Bá, along with two variant covers from I.N.J. Culbard and James Harren.

The Hollywood Gods reveal why the once-famous Vivian Clarke was blacklisted, and Klaus sees a side of Vivian that scares even him. Business is booming at the underground vampire amusement park — funhouse mirrors don’t really work for the undead, but the bobbing-for-apples-in-blood-station is a hit. The vampire chimp boss discovers that Klaus could serve him better alive than dead.

In issues #1-3, Klaus is seemingly holding his own — as well as Klaus can — and Hollywood has welcomed him with open arms. One limelight-seeking actress, Vivian Clarke, has taken a particular interest and may have bit off a bit more than she could chew getting involved with Klaus and his mediumship powers. Some secrets about her have been uncovered, ones she doesn’t even want Klaus to know about, including a mysterious photo of her with a child. Mr. Shivers — the vampire chimp drug-lord after Klaus for stealing his stash — has found a new successful business venture in underground amusement parks, but hasn’t forgotten the “Umbrella-brat” who stole oh-so-much from him. Klaus has been captured, and not by Mr. Shivers’ men, but by a group searching for the sudden appearance of the late Dante Chablis’ hat, which of course, would be our beloved Number 4.

There are spoilers for issue #4 of You Look Like Death beyond this point!

Things are ramping up as we tip into the back half of this series and all the pieces are falling into place. Somehow these characters manage to get deeper, giving more insight into who they were and who they are while simultaneously giving us the need for more.

Lyle’s story in The Void continues to plague us, where is he going? Up or down? He’s given us no reason to hate him, and many to pity him, but is it enough? Lyle and The Void are the only refuge of peace that Klaus can find in his life, it’s no wonder he’s willing to stoop to whatever substances to get him there, which leads us back to Ms. Vivian Clarke …

We get a little bit more information on Vivian, and who that child she tried to bury away was. The Gods of Hollywood are guilty of Séance-nabbing, but it turns out that’s actually a good thing as they tell him the truth about his current “friend” and supplier. Of course, the Gods and Vivian are no strangers to one another, and Klaus listens intently as they tell him her story, and offer him a job — one that includes his name in lights. Vivian does not take the news of Klaus’ meeting with the Gods well, and when Klaus says he’s leaving, she tries her hardest to not let that happen. But even with her spider-like inner demon coming out to play, she’s no match for Number 4, who has gotten a little reflective about his reasoning for latching onto this woman in the first place — she’s everything daddy isn’t.

One of the most exciting developments was the realization of Mr. Shivers’ that Klaus may be of use to him to contact his dead wife. The dive into this little tidbit of Shivers’ past brought a whole new level to this character that is sure to play a huge role in the finale. Chad, now an associate of the chimp, stumbles upon a now solo again Klaus and in the final pages, takes him to the vampire who has been searching far and wide for him.

This was another incredible issue of this so-far-perfect series. With the plot able to focus on only one of the seven Hargreeves siblings we get such a beautiful and introspective look at one of these complex players in the larger series. Taking the time to see where The Séance comes from, what made him into the man we see in The Umbrella Academy series, is a joy that only a focused series can cultivate. The way the multiple elements of this story slowly Tetris-slide into place through art and writing so impeccably is a testament to the story-telling ability of these creators.

You can purchase Tales from the Umbrella Academy: You Look Like Death issue #4 at your local comic shop (variant covers subject to availability), online, or digitally from Dark Horse Comics. Issue #5 will be available on January 20, 2021 and the sixth and final issue on February 24, 2021. A complete 6-issue volume of the entire series will also be available on March 17, 2021. All of the future issues of You Look Like Death, including the volume and all variant covers, are available for pre-order.

Interview: YaYa Gosselin Talks ‘We Can Be Heroes’, Superpowers, and More! [EXCLUSIVE]

A young, talented, up-and-coming actress who has already begun to leave her mark on the world of entertainment across a variety of films and television — this is YaYa Gosselin.

YaYa Gosselin stars in Robert Rodriguez’s upcoming Netflix film We Can Be Heroes, which follows the story of a group of superheroes that are kidnapped by alien invaders. Left to save the day are their children, with Gosselin’s brave and resourceful Missy Moreno as their leader. Currently, Gosselin is a series regular on the CBS crime drama FBI: Most Wanted, in which she portrays Tali LaCroix. She has also appeared in other television shows such as 13 Reasons Why and The Purge, and the feature film Peppermint.

Nerds and Beyond had a chance to chat with Gosselin ahead of the premiere of We Can Be Heroes. Check out the interview below!

Nerds and Beyond: Were you a fan of Robert Rodriguez’s Spy Kids movies or The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D before you joined the cast of We Can Be Heroes?

YaYa Gosselin: I had actually only seen Spy Kids 4 because it was on Netflix. People used to stop my Mom all the time when I was a baby and tell me I looked like the baby in it, which is pretty funny considering! I hadn’t seen any of the others when I booked the movie but watched them while we were in Austin filming. He makes the best kids movies!

Nerds and Beyond: The children of the Heroics were really the stars of We Can Be Heroes. What was it like to spend most of the film working with a group of kids your own age?

Gosselin: It was quite the adjustment and a lot of fun! It was my first time working with kids on a kids project. I am the only kid on my show and I am home-schooled since I was 7 so being in a large group of kids definitely had its challenges for me. I met some of my best friends making Heroes and I am so grateful for the experience.

Nerds and Beyond: Even though Missy may not be fighting off the aliens in hand-to-hand combat, she’s still right in the middle of all the action, and she plays a very important role throughout. What kind of preparation did you have to do for the role of Missy?

Gosselin: I honestly related to Missy so much that preparing to play her wasn’t terribly difficult. But all the physicality in the movie and the harness and stunt work was so fun to learn. We arrived to Austin two weeks early to start training for all that. I come from a dance background so it was new to me. I can’t even count how many times they told me not to point my toes when I kicked, lol!

Nerds and Beyond: What was your favorite scene to film in We Can Be Heroes?

Gosselin: I would have to say in addition to all of the scenes with Pedro (he is so fun!) my favorite scene was the tightrope scene. Filming that was crazy fun. From the harness to the wind machines and the men in green suits holding me up. I felt like an action movie star. And the way the scene was narrated by Haley Reinhart’s angelic voice just gave me chills watching it. I just love her.

Nerds and Beyond: Pedro Pascal plays the role of your character’s father, Marcus Moreno. What was it like working with Pedro?

Gosselin: As I mentioned above, Pedro is FUN! He made me laugh a lot and even had a real Dad moment with me when we were filming the breakfast scene. I am not allowed to eat sugar cereal in my real life so when they would yell cut I would keep shoveling it into my mouth. I had to take advantage of the moment ya know? He finally had to take it away from me because I was eating all the props!

Nerds and Beyond: This movie had a really great message for audiences, because Missy didn’t let her lack of powers stop her from being a part of the team. Instead, she found what she was skilled at (being a leader), and she embraced it. Like Missy, what’s a real life superpower that you believe you have?

Gosselin: I feel like Missy and I are both mission minded people. True leaders can’t waste time worrying about what people think of them or what people are saying about them. I have pretty thick skin when it comes to that and I think that is a true superpower. Robert gave us all cards at the end of production with our individual superpowers on them. Kind of like a cast superlatives list. One of mine was quiet confidence. Making this movie helped me to realize that for a girl to be a leader she doesn’t have to be an alpha type. I am NOT an alpha female but I am also not a follower. I do my own thing. I want other girls to know that confidence doesn’t have to be loud. His words for me were really empowering and they meant a lot to me.

Nerds and Beyond: We Can Be Heroes feels like The Avengers, but for a younger audience. The kids that watch it will see children that are their own age saving the day, someone they can relate to, instead of adult superheroes. How does it feel knowing that you and your co-stars have played a part in something that will be inspiring to other kids out there that are watching at home?

Gosselin: Honestly, I feel so excited for kids to see it. I think it’s the best way to close out a really tough year. I feel grateful to have been a part of this project for many reasons but when we made this movie in 2019, we had no idea what was to come. I don’t think it’s a coincidence at all that the beautiful messages in our film are landing at the perfect time to give kids hope that things are going to get better.

Nerds and Beyond: It was recently announced that you were promoted to a series regular for season 2 of FBI: Most Wanted. What has your experience been like working on that show?

Gosselin: Working on FBI: Most Wanted is incredible for a few reasons. First of all, I get to live in the greatest city in the world for part of the year. I LOVE New York City. I love vintage shopping and there is literally a vintage store on every block here. Also, I am so lucky to get to work with Julian McMahon. We have a beautiful relationship and bond. He is a very special person and really goes out of his way to make me feel special and included. Being the only kid on the show has its perks but it’s an adult show so I am super grateful to have him play my Dad. I love him so much.

Nerds and Beyond: What made you want to pursue acting?

Gosselin: As long as I can remember I was acting and performing. I’ve always loved to emote, first through dancing, and then I discovered acting when I was about 6 or 7. I did commercials and stuff when I was 5 but I didn’t really connect to acting for television and film until a little later. Even before I started booking work I would love to work with my coaches and break down scenes and emotions. It’s a good outlet for me because I am not the type of person to talk about my feelings openly. I tend to bury them. I often work through my own emotions in the characters I play.

Courtesy of Elizabeth Pettey.

Nerds and Beyond: Do you have any dream acting roles, like appearing in a certain franchise or portraying a particular character?

Gosselin: Missy was a dream role for me. I read comics in real life and love superheroes so when I got the audition for this, I was thrilled. It’s kinda weird to be able to say that I have already achieved a dream role at 10 years old. It is so surreal. I feel like I say I am grateful all the time but I am. Missy Moreno was a dream come true for me. Another dream role would be to play a horse girl. I love horses and one good thing about the pandemic is that when the acting world stopped, I was able to spend more time riding. I was riding 3x a week during the shutdown. Horses are my passion and my therapy so to be able to combine my two worlds would be amazing. Also to work with Kenny Ortega. It would be a dream to work with him on something musical.

Nerds and Beyond: And finally, just for fun. Even though Missy is absolutely a force to be reckoned with regardless of any superhuman powers, what kind of strange, unique, or interesting power would you give her if she had to have one?

Gosselin: I honestly love that Missy has a heart for leadership because anyone can be a leader. And it doesn’t cost anything! I truly feel that her power is the greatest of them all! But if I had to give her a superhuman power I would want it to be inspired by Wonder Woman’s golden lasso. She uses it on people to make them tell the truth. I would like my ukulele to have a similar power. I taught myself how to play the ukulele during quarantine so I think it would be really cool if Missy played the uke and something powerful comes from it! Especially because it’s such a small instrument. Power comes in all sizes right?

Don’t miss out on We Can Be Heroes, which arrives on Netflix globally on Christmas Day! You can also catch YaYa Gosselin in FBI: Most Wanted on CBS, the second season of which will return in January 2021.

‘His Dark Materials’ Renewed For Final Season

0

The BBC and HBO confirmed today that His Dark Materials will return for a third and final season! With each season of the series roughly corresponding to one book in the beloved trilogy, this means the hit adaptation will be able to finish Lyra’s story. His Dark Materials aired the season 2 finale this week in the U.K., with U.S. viewers getting the finale this coming Monday.

The series is based on the critically acclaimed and wildly popular trilogy of books by Phillip Pullman, which was previously adapted into a film in 2007 and has spawned several spinoff novels. That film deviated from the source material and was largely disliked by fans. The television adaptation, on the other hand, has been praised by fans and critics alike for its care in bringing the books to life. The third season is expected to follow the plot of the final book, The Amber Spyglass, with the second season largely adapting the middle book The Subtle Knife. The final season is expected to begin filming in 2021, with no word yet on a release date.
