Official Synopsis for ‘Prodigal Son’ Season 1, Episode 2 “Speak of the Devil”

Prodigal Son fans are counting down the days until the return of their favorite profiler Malcolm Bright and the best NYPD detective squad returns! They are also anticipating what new drama awaits the Whitly family and FOX’s new synopsis of the second episode in season 2 give a few hints as to what fans can expect:

A CASE INVOLVING AN EXORCISM RATTLES MALCOLM’S CONSCIENCE

When a priest is found murdered in his place of worship, Bright grapples with its effect on his own trauma. Martin, trying to help with the case, consults his fellow inmate, Friar Pete (guest star Christian Borle), whom he learns is keeping a secret of his own. Meanwhile, Ainsley grows worried that Jessica is keeping something from her regarding her relationship with Gil. And Dani, Gil and Malcolm rally behind JT, urging him to speak to his union rep about the discrimination he’s been facing.

The confirmed guest cast list also confirms the return of Mr. David! Guest cast include Esau Pritchett as Mr. David; Damian Young as Jonah Shaw; Michael Potts as Dr. Brandon Marsh; Armando Acevedo as Hector; Adam Langdon as Norman Goode; and Melissa Van Der Schyff as Mrs. Goode. There have been a few glimpses of this case in recent promos and FOX’s images from “Speak of the Devil” raise even more questions around this season’s drama. Check them out below!

Oscar Isaac’s Rumored ‘Moon Knight’ Role Potentially Confirmed by Cinematographer

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is stacked with releases of upcoming films and Disney+ exclusive shows with no signs of slowing down. One of the new releases that’s a bit farther off down the horizon is the Moon Knight television series.

Originally created by writer Doug Moench and artist Don Perlin, the fictional superhero made his first appearance via Marvel Comics back in the 1970s. Though Moon Knight has popped up in several animated shows and video games over the years, the upcoming Disney+ series will mark the character’s first live-action appearance.

As per Marvel, Marc Spector is “a complex vigilante who suffers from dissociative identity disorder. These multiple identities who live inside him are distinct characters in the series and will appear against a backdrop of Egyptian iconography.” The series will be directed by Mohamed Diab.

Since the show’s initial announcement, one of the longstanding questions has been: who will portray Marc Spector? Rumors began to surface late last year that the role had been secured by Oscar Isaac, but there was no mention of the casting announcement during the December 2020 Disney Investor Day presentation (despite the fact that the show itself was mentioned).

The news of Isaac’s role has seemingly now been confirmed in an Instagram post by Gregory Middleton, Moon Knight‘s cinematographer. Though it is worth nothing that Middleton appears to have accidentally tagged an unofficial account in the process (Isaac does not have an Instagram), he did state the news once again in a response to a fan’s comment on the post.

Interview: Kate Flannery Talks the Legacy of ‘The Office’ and More!

0

On January 1, 2021, the beloved NBC sitcom The Office moved from its longtime streaming home on Netflix to NBC’s streaming platform Peacock. Along with every episode from the series, Peacock also added – and will continue to add – brand new special features, including: superfan episodes with never-before-seen footage, behind the scenes footage such as bloopers, interviews, and more, themed episode collections, and other special clip playlists.

To celebrate The Office’s move, Nerds and Beyond was able to chat with the rabies-free Meredith Palmer herself, Kate Flannery, about the move to Peacock, the impact of the show, and more! Read on for our interview.

Note: This interview has been edited for clarity.

Nerds and Beyond: Since The Office moved from Netflix to Peacock recently, what are you most excited about with that move?

Kate Flannery: I’m mostly excited about the superfan episodes, because they include deleted scenes that even I’ve never seen before. I remember shooting them, but I don’t know how they fit into the episodes. It’s gonna feel like this thing you’ve seen a million times and then some things are gonna be longer, and it’s gonna feel like a dream. In a good way.

Nerds and Beyond: Is there anything about the deleted scenes or special features that you can tell us a little bit more about?

Kate Flannery: There’s been so many storylines. There’s certain characters that I’m told have more deleted scenes than others, and I’m told that it’s Pam, and Toby, and Meredith. I think we’re the top three characters with deleted scenes. I’m excited, for selfish reasons, but I’m also excited for the Pam stuff … I’m excited for all of it. I’m excited for Toby, too.

Nerds and Beyond: So moving away from Peacock, The Office has become sort of this pop-culture staple. What has it been like seeing this show have such a huge impact on pop culture and create the legacy that it has?

Kate Flannery: It’s a wonderful gift. I feel like if I’m only mostly known as Meredith, the drunk from The Office, I’m super happy with that. I feel like the affection for this show just grows and grows, and I feel like there’s so many smart kids that really get all the subtleties. I mean, I feel like this show — The Office really treats the audience like they’re smart. You can watch the same episode five times and find something new to laugh at or to notice. And it’s just so cool. It’s really a dream come true, and, you know, it’s crazy. It’s fantastic.

Nerds and Beyond: What, personally, do you think makes The Office such a special and timeless show?

Kate Flannery: Well, I think there’s something about being in a workplace and being an ordinary person. I think it’s kinda like Pam’s speech in the finale – there’s beauty in ordinary things, and there’s beauty in a paper company. [laughs] And all the awkward, ridiculous personality traits of Michael Scott and the way that he affects everyone that he deals with on a regular basis. And just the way we interact. You kinda get stuck with people you don’t pick in life, but somehow, you’re a weird family out of it, no matter whether you want to be or not. That’s just how it is.

Nerds and Beyond: What is one trait you have in common with Meredith, and what is one trait you have that’s different but has [created] a life lesson you still use today?

Kate Flannery: I … well, my dad owned a bar for years, so I come by playing an alcoholic very honestly. And I bartended and waited tables up and through the first season of The Office, so I waited on many Merediths. I’ve seen a [lot of] personality traits, but I’ve seen like the one female that’s still drinking with the guys. [Different], I think Meredith is one of the most unapologetic, confident people at Dunder Mifflin. And actually, she just doesn’t have any shame, and I wish I was as confident and unapologetic as Meredith. I do tend to overapologize, but I feel like it’s less so. The more Meredith I can channel, the less I apologize.

Thank you to Kate for taking the time to chat with us! You can stream all seasons of The Office now on Peacock.

Selena Gomez Announces Premiere Date for Season 2 of HBO Max Series ‘Selena + Chef’

The first season of Selena Gomez’s quarantine cooking show, Selena + Chef, was an instant hit when it first debuted on HBO Max late last summer. So much so that the streaming service announced that a second season was in the works soon after the final episodes released and the singer has finally revealed when it will premiere.

Gomez announced in a video that she posted to her social media that season 2 of her series will officially be on HBO Max on January 21! In the video, she said the season will be bringing so much more to the table, along with more amazing chefs and delicious recipes… as well as more of her lighting her kitchen on fire.

The first season of Selena + Chef featured master chefs such as Ludo Lefebvre, Antonia Lofaso, Candice Kumai, Roy Choi, Nancy Silverton, and more. Season 2 is expected to add even more amazing chefs to that list. Along with the chefs, Gomez donates to a charity of the guest chef’s choice in every episode.

Season 2 of Selena + Chef premieres on HBO Max on Thursday, January 21!

Interview: Oscar Nunez Talks the Legacy of ‘The Office’ and More!

To celebrate The Office’s move, Nerds and Beyond was able to chat with Oscar Nunez, who plays Oscar Martinez (our favorite Dunder Mifflin accountant. Don’t tell Angela or Kevin), about the impact of the show and more! Read on for our interview.

Note: This interview has been edited for clarity.

Nerds and Beyond: Since The Office did move from Netflix to Peacock recently, what are you most excited about with that move?

Oscar Nuñez: For me, I’m excited about the bloopers that I haven’t seen yet, and the deleted scenes. Because I know the episodes, so I like watching us when we do the bloopers and stuff like that. I enjoy that.

Nerds and Beyond: The Office has sort of become this staple within pop culture in recent years. What has been the most rewarding part about seeing the legacy and impact of this show grow to what it has?

Oscar Nuñez: It’s fun when I see young people, the young kids, be turned on to the show – your 11, 12, 13-year-olds that are just crazy about the show. That’s cool.

Nerds and Beyond: What, personally, do you think makes The Office such a timeless and special show?

Oscar Nuñez: I think a couple things. I think it’s a funny show, and I also think people find it comforting. It’s gonna be funny, but they’re not gonna get any surprises or anything too controversial. The controversial stuff is pretty harmless.

Nerds and Beyond: How would you describe the impact being on the show has had on you?

Oscar Nuñez: Oh, it’s been great. It’s been great. I’ve made lifelong friends, the paychecks didn’t bounce, the practice and experience … yeah, it’s all been great.

Nerds and Beyond: What is one trait that you have in common with Oscar, and what is [one] that is different from Oscar but has created a life lesson that you still carry with you?

Oscar Nuñez: I guess I’m a little snobby sometimes. And that’s different from him … Well, he’s gay. I’m not gay, but he – I didn’t become more sensitive towards gay people when I started playing him. I’ve always thought gay people were cool, so…I don’t know. Something different … I’m pretty much like him in many ways. It was a fun character to play. I would’ve liked to have maybe had more zany parts – like what Rainn [Wilson] and Steve [Carell] got to do was crazy. But their characters are insane, and Oscar wasn’t insane. He was on the sane side of it. It was like him, and Pam, and Jim – those were the sane people. And then you had the crazies, like Rainn, and Steve, and a couple of others. But, yeah, Oscar was on the common sense side.

Nerds and Beyond: For our last question, how would you describe The Office in five words or less to somebody who has never seen it before?

Oscar Nuñez: Oh, brother. Five words or less? Uh [laughs] let’s see. Oh, gosh, it’s like Mary Tyler Moore or something. I would reference it to another show, but let me try not referencing it another show. Very funny, comfort food pizza.

Thank you to Oscar for taking the time to chat with us! You can stream all seasons of The Office now on Peacock.

2021 Grammys Ceremony Postponed Due to COVID-19 Concerns

The 2021 Grammy Awards will not be happening on January 31 as planned. The awards ceremony, which celebrates the best in music, has been postponed until Sunday, March 14, due to health and safety concerns for the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. The news was first reported by Rolling Stone.

The decision comes after the union that represents actors and media professionals, SAG-AFTRA, called for a production hold in COVID-plagued Southern California.

The 2021 Grammy nominations were led by Beyoncé — who received nine nominations — while Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift, and Roddy Ricch have six each. The event was to be led by The Daily Show host Trevor Noah at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. According to a representative of Noah, he will remain host.

The Grammys were set to be the start of the 2021 award season. However, the Golden Globes, which usually takes place in January, will be the first award ceremony of the season and is currently scheduled for February 28, 2021.
