Aussie Open Issues Challenge to FTR for AEW WrestleDream
After losing the ROH World Tag Team Championships at AEW All In, Aussie Open has been on a tear dominating the AEW tag division. Now, they want a piece of FTR as they officially challenged the AEW Tag Team Champions on tonight’s episode of AEW Collision.
“You guys love to talk a lot about how many championships you’ve won — how you’ve won championships everywhere you’ve been … but so have Aussie Open,” Kyle Fletcher passionately states in an in ring promo. He goes onto say that they’ve both won the ROH World Tag Team Championships as well as the IWGP Tag Team Championships so whether the titles are on the line or not, they want the match.
The two tag teams have faced off four times in some capacity in the last year. Their first official tag team match against each other, though, came at NJPW Royal Quest II last October (or as Fletcher states, one year to the day of AEW WrestleDream), for the IWGP Tag Team Championships. The match is highly regarded as one of the top tag team matches of 2022 and it helped bolster Aussie Open to new heights.
As it stands, AEW WrestleDream will also feature Bryan Danielson vs. Zack Sabre Jr. as well as Swerve Strickland vs. Hangman Adam Page. WrestleDream takes place October 1 in Seattle, Washington at the Climate Pledge Arena.
