Today, Paramount+ announced a new three part docuseries focusing on the uprise of ’80s metal through the eyes and mouths of those who lived through the era. I Wanna Rock: The ’80s Metal Dream features prominent musicians such as Dee Snider of Twisted Sister, John Corabi of Mötley Crüe and The Scream, Janet Gardner of Vixen, Vicky Hamilton, Dave “Snake” Sabo of Skid Row, and Winger’s Kip Winger. Tyler Measom directs and executively produces the series.

The series is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios in partnership with Gunpowder & Sky. Executive producers include David Kennedy, Nick Quested, Rick Krim, Matt Shay, Matt Weaver, Floris Bauer, Barry Barclay and Joanna Zwickel. Van Toffler produces and Bruce Gillmer, Michael Maniaci and Vanessa WhiteWolf executive produce for MTV Entertainment Studios, with Jennifer Yandrisevits serving as Senior Director of Production.

The first episode follows the rise of the genre through the eyes of five aspiring rockstars. Episode 2 dives into the ugly sides of the demanding lifestyle and Snider’s famous visit to Congress for the PRMC hearings, ones that pitted the music industry against the U.S. government. The final episode chronicles the continued rise of diversity through music. With ’80s hair metal on its way out the door, it cleared a path for the era of grunge, spearheaded by Nirvana, Green River, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Mudhoney among others.

I Wanna Rock: The ’80s Metal Dream premieres exclusively on Paramount+ Tuesday, July 18 in the U.S. and Canada and internationally on Wednesday, July 19 in the U.K. and Australia, with further international markets to follow later this summer.
