First Trailer for Remake of ‘The Color Purple’ is Released

Warner Bros. Pictures released a trailer for its upcoming remake of the coming-of-age drama The Color Purple. The film is based on a novel by Alice Walker that follows sisters Celie and Nettie, young African-American women who must navigate coming-of-age in the early 1900s in the South. The sisters are eventually separated, but through a series of letters, they are able to maintain faith that they will be reunited.

The Color Purple stars Fantasia Taylor as Celie and Ciara as Nettie, along with Colman Domingo, Taraji P. Henson, Corey Hawkins, Danielle Brooks, H.E.R, Phylicia Mpasi, and Halle Bailey. The film is directed by Blitz Bazawule with a screenplay written by Marcus Gardley. The film is produced by Quincy Jones, Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey, and Scott Sanders.
