Dave Filoni To Direct ‘Star Wars’ Film to Close Out the Disney+ Series Storylines
The final bow to the New Republic storyline that began in The Mandalorian will come in the form of a film helmed by Dave Filoni.
Three new Star Wars films were announced at Star Wars Celebration, one of which being the Filoni-led New Republic film, another the return of the sequel trilogy’s protagonist Rey as she begins her own Jedi Academy, and a third from Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny director James Mangold based on the dawn of the Jedi.
Filoni’s will act as a close-out for the Disney+ series beginning with The Mandalorian, including The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and presumably Skeleton Crew, which takes place in the same time period.
While a fourth season of The Mandalorian has yet to be officially confirmed, creator Jon Favreau has said that it is written, if another comes after that before the final film remains to be seen. The next installment of the “Mando-Verse” on Disney+ will be Ahsoka after the final two episodes of The Mandalorian season 3 air. Ahsoka has been confirmed to release in August 2023 with a teaser released at the convention.
No release window has been announced for any of these films, nor has any confirmation of what additional seasons of the Disney+ shows we might see before this final culmination.
