Universal Pictures has released a trailer for its upcoming horror/comedy film Renfield.

Told from the perspective of a vampire’s assistant, Renfield follows a vampire’s assistant that has had enough of taking care of a ruthless, overpowering vampire and decides that he wants to return to his normal life.

The film’s description reads:

“Modern monster tale of Dracula’s loyal servant, Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road, X-Men franchise) stars as Renfield, the tortured aide to history’s most narcissistic boss, Dracula (Oscar® winner Nicolas Cage).  Renfield is forced to procure his master’s prey and do his every bidding, no matter how debased. But now, after centuries of servitude, Renfield is ready to see if there’s a life outside the shadow of The Prince of Darkness.  If only he can figure out how to end his codependency.”

Besides starring Cage and Hoult, the Renfield cast includes Awkwafina, Ben Schwartz, and Adrian Martinez. The film is directed and produced by Chris McKay from a screenplay by Ryan Ridley, based on an original idea by The Walking Dead and Invincible creator Robert Kirkman.

Renfield is also produced by Kirkman and David Alpert, and co-presidents Bryan Furst and Sean Furst. McKay’s producing partner Samantha Nisenboim also executive produces.
