‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ Wins Three Golden Globe Awards

The Banshees of Inisherin dominated the 80th Golden Globe Awards in both nominations and wins. After receiving eight nominations across the categories total, the film from director/writer Martin McDonagh took home three wins.

Banshees was nominated for best motion picture, musical or comedy; best actor, musical or comedy (Colin Farrell); best supporting actor in a motion picture (Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan); best supporting actress in a motion picture (Kerry Condon), best director (Martin McDonagh); best screenplay (McDonagh) and best score (Carter Burwell).

The film took home awards in the following categories:

Best Picture – Musical/Comedy

Babylon

The Banshees of Inisherin

Everything Everywhere All at Once

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Story

Triangle of Sadness

Best Actor – Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy

Diego Calva

Daniel Craig

This is Farrell’s second Golden Globe win after winning in 2009 for In Bruges, which was also directed by McDonagh and starred Gleeson as well. He was also nominated in 2017 for The Lobster.

The film’s official description reads:

“On a remote island off the coast of Ireland, Pádraic (Farrell) is devastated when his buddy Colm (Gleeson) suddenly puts an end to their lifelong friendship. With help from his sister and a troubled young islander, Pádraic sets out to repair the damaged relationship by any means necessary. However, as Colm’s resolve only strengthens, he soon delivers an ultimatum that leads to shocking consequences.”

The Banshees of Inisherin is available to stream on HBO Max.
