The IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 17 match saw Kazuchika Okada and Jay White continuing their legendary rivalry. Ultimately, Okada would land a series of finishers, including the Rainmaker and White’s own Bladerunner. Post-match, Shingo Takagi challenged Okada for the championship after losing it to hit at Wrestle Kingdom 16.

Okada’s Wrestle Kingdom 17 win marks his second reign as IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, with his first reign lasting 159 days. Okada is also a former five-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion, with the longest reign at 720 days.
