Fan Expo Philadelphia: David Tennant, Ashley Eckstein, and More!

Staff Photographer - Mandi Lea Photography

This past weekend, two of our photographers, Mandi and Jeannine, were lucky enough to attend Fan Expo in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Guests like David Tennant, Ming-Na Wen, Ashley Eckstein, and James Marsters were in attendance along with many more actors, voice actors, and comic creators.

The convention center was packed with fans ready to get back to a normal convention schedule with their cosplay outfits and meet fan-favorite celebrities.

The exhibit floor was filled with amazing artwork, comics, and various nerdy memorabilia. One of the guests that we saw was Ashley Eckstein, whose reputation for being amazingly sweet was so apparent when she interacted with the fans during the Q&A. Ming-Na Wen was next, and if you’ve never seen her at a convention, I highly recommend immediately finding one where she is a guest. She was hilarious, sweet, and even stayed after to answer questions for anyone who had been waiting in line and didn’t get a chance to speak with her. It was one of the kindest things I’ve seen at a convention.

As a huge Sons of Anarchy fan, seeing Ron Perlman and Theo Rossi at the next panel answer questions about the end of the show and their feelings on that was interesting. For everyone that attended that panel, we know we will all be watching The Ice Pirates movie immediately. The Wynona Earp panel came on after with Tim Rozon and Melanie Scrofano, where they discussed their start on the show, their other projects, and their experience in Philadelphia so far.

Having seen David Tennant in a panel before for Good Omens, I thought I knew what to expect with his panel. David was a wonderful guest who popped up and down from his seat to wander all over the stage to chat with fans during the Q&A, discussed his pure hatred of Michael Sheen (in jest, of course), and talked about how his wife, Georgia Tennant, is the best producer he’s ever worked with. He was an absolute joy to watch on stage and has such a lovely appreciation for the fandom and for conventions as a whole.

Attending Fan Expo gave fans in the Philadelphia area the much-needed fan connection we have all been craving since March 2020. The feeling of normality finally coming back to the con world was truly magical and we cannot wait to attend another Fan Expo event in the future. You can check to see if there are any Fan Expo events coming near you, here. Fan Expo will return to Philadelphia from June 2-4, 2023 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
