First reported by Deadline, Bassett is set to play Lady Bayford, stepmother of Elodie (Brown), in the film that follows a princess who is to be sacrificed to the kingdom’s sacred cave dragon after marrying her prince charming.

The flick comes from Oscar-nominated filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and is written by Dan Mazeau. Brown for PCMA Productions, Mazeau, Zack Roth, Chris Castaldi, and Sue Baden-Powell serve as executive producers, while Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum are producing Damsel, with Emily Wolfe as a co-producer.

Angela Bassett recently wrapped the fifth season of FOX’s hit first responder drama 9-1-1, where she portrays LAPD Sergeant Athena Grant. The series has yet to be renewed for a season 6, but news of that will likely come soon. She also recently reprised her role for Marvel Studios’ Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever, due in theaters November 2022.
