The wait is finally almost over. Netflix’s hit series The Umbrella Academy is set to return with its third season on June 22.

The Umbrella Academy is based on the comic book series created and written by Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá, following the story of the Hargreeves children. On the same day in 1989, 43 infants were inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven were adopted by a billionaire, Sir Reginald Hargreeves, who created The Umbrella Academy and prepared his “children” to save the world.

The season 3 premiere date was confirmed today with a brief teaser that looks to take place shortly after where the season 2 finale left off, showing the Umbrella Academy meeting their replacements — the Sparrow Academy.

The synopsis for season 3 has been released, too:

“After putting a stop to 1963’s doomsday, the Umbrella Academy return home to the present, convinced they prevented the initial apocalypse and fixed this godforsaken timeline once and for all. But after a brief moment of celebration, they realize things aren’t exactly (okay, not at all) how they left them.

Enter the Sparrow Academy. Smart, stylish, and about as warm as a sea of icebergs, the Sparrows immediately clash with the Umbrellas in a violent face-off that turns out to be the least of everyone’s concerns. Navigating challenges, losses, and surprises of their own — and dealing with an unidentified destructive entity wreaking havoc in the Universe (something they may have caused) … now all they need to do is convince Dad’s new and possibly better family to help them put right what their arrival made wrong.

Will they find a way back to their pre-apocalyptic lives? Or is this new world about to reveal more than just a hiccup in the timeline?”

The Umbrella Academy stars Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Elliot Page, Ritu Arya, and more. In case you missed it, an ominous set of posters featuring the aforementioned stars was released last month.

The Sparrow Academy consists of Justin H. Min as Ben and series newcomers Justin Cornwell as Marcus, Britne Oldford as Fei, Jake Epstein as Alphonso, Genesis Rodriguez as Sloane, Cazzie David as Jayme, and Christopher the dread-inducing cube. Javon Walton has joined the cast for season 3 as well.

Don’t miss the Sparrows when they land on Netflix on June 22, and stay tuned for our coverage on The Umbrella Academy!
