‘Walker: Independence’ Adds Lawrence Kao
Fresh off the recent announcement that When Hope Calls star Greg Hovanessian is joining the Walker: Independence pilot, the prequel series has added yet another face to the cast in the form of Lawrence Kao.
According to Deadline, Kao, from Netflix’s Wu Assassins, will star in the Walker prequel opposite Matt Barr. Kao will portray Kai, a young Chinese man who runs a local laundry with partner Bowen Sing. A kind face and fluent in English, Kai is a former railroad worker but has a new life in Independence. He befriends Abby almost immediately after meeting her and offers her a meal and “a friendly word of advice about staying in Independence,” per the character’s official description.
Besides Wu Assassins, Lawrence Kao can be seen in The Originals, Leverage: Redemption, The Purge (TV series) and Max Steel.
Walker star Jared Padalecki executive produces the new series, which recently got a pilot order from The CW. Kao joins previously announced cast Hovanessian, Barr and Justin Johnson Cortez.
