Benedict Cumberbatch, Laura Dern, and Noah Jupe will star in a new film, Morning, from Assassin’s Creed director Justin Kurzel.

The script, based on a screenplay by Sam Steiner, will focus on a futuristic society where humans can survive without sleep as a result of a new pill and artificial sun. Cathy (Dern) begins a terrifying new reality after the death of her husband Frank (Cumberbatch) and her memories begin to seep into her waking hours. Her son, Danny (Jupe), has joined in with an underground group hellbent on reclaiming their dreams after living their entire lives in this new, sleepless reality.

Cumberbatch’s production company with producer Adam Ackland, Sunnymarch, will produce alongside SunnyMarch’s head of film, Leah Clarke. Executive producers include Dern and Jayme Lemons through their banner Jaywalker Pictures and Marnie Podos.

Adam Ackland spoke of the script, stating, “‘Morning’ is a joyful, reflective, and defiant story about a reality not so far from our own where a preoccupation with productivity has destroyed our ability to connect, grieve and love.”
