Nominations for the 79th annual Golden Globe Awards are in. For the first time ever, submissions were not required for award consideration this year, but the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) did accommodate filmmakers and studios that requested their content be considered for specific categories only.

Apple TV+’s critically acclaimed comedy series Ted Lasso scored four nominations this morning.

  • Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy
  • Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy (Jason Sudeikis)
  • Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role on Television (Hannah Waddingham)
  • Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role on Television (Brett Goldstein)

These nominations are par for the course for Ted Lasso, which has been a force to be reckoned with across the award show circuit. Sudeikis, Waddingham, and Goldstein all took home Emmy Awards back in September, and the show won seven awards in total. As for the Golden Globes, Ted Lasso won Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy at the 78th ceremony, along with a win for Sudeikis, too.

Ted Lasso is a hilarious and heartwarming show that follows the story of a story of a small-time college football coach from Kansas who’s hired to coach AFC Richmond, a soccer team in the UK. What Ted lacks in experience with English football, he makes up for with his infectiously positive attitude.

Seasons 1 and 2 of Ted Lasso are now streaming exclusively on Apple TV+, and a third season is on the way. Catch up on all of our Ted Lasso coverage here, including our review of season 2.

Nominations were announced via livestream by Snoop Dogg and HFPA president Helen Hoehne. Read the full list here.

Golden Globe winners will be announced on Sunday, January 9, 2022.
