The Sundance Film Festival‘s 2022 lineup has arrived, and with it comes the news that the annual event will mark the premiere of Fresh, a thriller starring Marvel Studios’ Sebastian Stan and Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People). Sundance has revealed the film’s synopsis and a first look photo.
“Frustrated by scrolling dating apps only to end up on lame, tedious dates, Noa takes a chance by giving her number to the awkwardly charming Steve after a produce-section meet-cute at the grocery store. During a subsequent date at a local bar, sassy banter gives way to a chemistry-laden hookup, and a smitten Noa dares to hope that she might have actually found a real connection with the dashing cosmetic surgeon. She accepts Steve’s invitation to an impromptu weekend getaway, only to find that her new paramour has been hiding some unusual appetites.”
Sundance describes Fresh as “an intoxicating ride, nesting a penetrating thriller about the perils women face on the modern dating scene within a ferocious allegory for the commodification of their bodies.”
The film also stars Jojo T. Gibbs, Charlotte Le Bon, Andrea Bang, and Dayo Okeniyi.
Fresh is directed by Mimi Cave (her feature debut), written by Lauryn Kahn, and produced by Adam McKay, Kevin Messick, and Maeve Cullinane.
The Sundance Film Festival will take place in-person and online from January 20-30, 2022. Ticket packages will go on sale on December 17.
