Audiences have been flocking to theaters left and right to catch the highly anticipated premiere of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, which is an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s critically acclaimed 1965 sci-fi novel of the same name.

While the film is an epic venture in filmmaking on all fronts (make sure to read our review), it’s also only half of a story. Villeneuve has long-since made it clear that the source material was far too rich and robust to be confined to a single film, which is why the opening credits of the movie refer to it as “Part One.” The film covers exactly half of the original novel.

That being said, “Part Two” was still up in the air, waiting to be officially confirmed by Warner Bros. and Legendary. Today, a special announcement finally arrived: Dune Part Two is happening.

The film is slated to hit theaters in October 2023.

Dune is a mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey which tells the story of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence — a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential — only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

Alongside Chalamet, Part One also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, Chang Chen, David Dastmalchian, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem.

In the meantime, don’t miss out on the recently announced official graphic novel adaptation of Villeneuve’s film — Dune: The Official Movie Graphic Novel.
