Netflix has released the first trailer for its upcoming original film, The Power of the Dog, starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

“Charismatic rancher Phil Burbank inspires fear and awe in those around him. When his brother brings home a new wife and her son, Phil torments them until he finds himself exposed to the possibility of love.”

The Power of the Dog is ramping up for the film festivals and its release later this year. It will make its world premiere in competition at the Venice Film Festival.

Based on the novel of the same name by Thomas Savage, it stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Phil Burbank, Kirsten Dunst as Rose, Jesse Plemons as George Burbank, Thomasin McKenzie as Lola, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Peter, Keith Carradine as Governor Edward, and Francis Conroy.

The film will premiere in select theaters November 17 and on Netflix December 10.
