Mindhunter‘s Anna Torv is officially the latest addition to the cast of HBO’s upcoming series The Last of Us.

The Last of Us is based on Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed action-adventure survival video game, which first landed on the PlayStation console in 2013. Set 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed, the series follows Joel, a hardened survivor, who is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.

Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) stars as Joel, while Game of Thrones‘ Bella Ramsey will portray Ellie. Other confirmed cast members include Gabriel Luna as Joel’s brother Tommy, Merle Dandridge as Marlene (reprising her role in the video game series), Nico Parker as Joel’s daughter, and Jeffrey Pierce (the voice actor for Tommy in the video game) as a rebel in a quarantine zone named Perry. Additionally, Murray Bartlett and Con O’Neill will guest star as two survivalists named Frank and Bill, respectively.

Torv will portray Tess, a hardened survivor and a smuggler.

The series is written by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) and Neil Druckmann, director of the video game and co-president of Naughty Dog, and is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television. Jasmila Žbanić and Ali Abbasi will both serve as directors, and Kantemir Balagov will direct the pilot episode.

Stay tuned for more updates on The Last of Us, which will be available on HBO and HBO Max.
