Maria Schrader’s German language drama Ich bin dein Mensch (I’m Your Man) is making its way to North America.

I’m Your Man had its worldwide premiere this year during the 71st Berlin International Film Festival, and it was met with positive reviews and multiple award nominations, ultimately taking home the Silver Bear for Best Leading Performance from Maren Eggert.

I’m Your Man stars Maren Eggert as Alma and Dan Stevens as Tom. Alma is a scientist at the famous Pergamon Museum in Berlin. In order to obtain research funds for her work, she is persuaded to participate in an extraordinary study. For three weeks, she has to live with a humanoid robot tailored to her character and needs, whose artificial intelligence is designed to be the perfect life partner for her. Alma meets Tom, a machine in human form in a class of its own, created solely to make her happy. I’m Your Man is a comic-tragic tale about the questions of love, longing, and what makes a human being human.

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) returns September 9-18, and I’m Your Man is one of the latest additions to this year’s selection of films.
