Return to the Continent: A Look at the First Teaser Trailer for ‘The Witcher’ Season 2

Share:

Fans of The Witcher have waited since December of 2019 for the next chapter of the story to unfold, and today as a part of Geeked Week we finally got our first teaser trailer. Despite being only 11 seconds long, the teaser trailer gave us plenty to talk about, though if fans were hoping to see Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia they will just have to wait some more! This teaser focuses almost entirely on Ciri (Freya Allan), the young heroine we saw meet up with Geralt at the end of season 1. Below are some key takeaways from the 11 seconds we will all be overanalyzing until our next look at season 2.

First, we see Ciri holding what appears to be the cloak she fled Cintra with in season one, complete with an embroidered lion. Is Ciri carrying the cloak still to keep her connected to Cintra, or will this season focus on Ciri letting go of her past and saying goodbye to the life she left behind?

Since it has already been confirmed that season 2 will introduce a famous Witcher location, Kaer Morhen, and this room appears to be full of swords, it’s a pretty safe bet that this screen cap is Ciri exploring the halls of Kaer Morhen. While there isn’t enough to make a conclusive decision, I do believe the top sword could be Ciri’s own Zirael based on engravings.

Based on this screen cap, we will hopefully get to see Geralt of Rivia and the other Witchers at Kaer Morhen train Ciri and learn how to control the power within her. This season will introduce fan-favorite fellow Witchers Lambert (Paul Bullion), Eskel (Basil Eidenbenz), and Vesemir (Kim Bodnia) who will all certainly pass some of their wisdom onto the Lion Cub of Cintra.

Season 2 is bound to introduce new characters, some we will undoubtedly love and some we will undoubtedly hate. The teaser gave us a look at the back of some rather intimidating armor, which does look like the new re-design for the series’ Nilfgaardian armor. Could this character be the returning Cahir from season 1, or is this the infamous Emperor Emhyr? Only time will tell, unfortunately.

Kaer Morhen is bound to not be the only new location our heroes discover this season, and while the teaser gave us a few different locations to ponder this is the one that stuck out to me as a long-time lover of the games. Can we truly have The Witcher content without a journey into a creepy sewer? I don’t think so. Where else is a Witcher supposed to hunt monsters?

via Netflix

This screen cap intimidates me a lot more than a screen cap should, but here we are. Why is Ciri screaming for Geralt? I don’t think I can wait until season 2 to find out. And because the small details are not to be ignored: are those lilac petals adorning whatever ruins we are looking at here? You all know who smells of lilac…

If you haven’t watched the teaser yet be sure to check that out below, and don’t forget to add WitcherCon to your July calendars!
