Fans Create Petition to Save ‘Prodigal Son’

The outlook for FOX’s Prodigal Son chances of renewal had been looking grim, but today those suspicions were confirmed.

FOX has cancelled the drama which saw only two season of incredible episodes following profiler Malcolm Bright who has a talent for getting inside the minds of criminals thanks in part to his own father, notorious serial killer Martin Whitly.

Throughout the two seasons, fans have been treated to edge of your seat drama as Bright partnered with the NYPD to bring down criminals in the big city. More than just a procedural cop show, Prodigal Son also explored the Whitly family dynamics as Malcolm, his sister Ainsley, and their mother Jessica all reconciled Martin’s actions in their own way. The show never shied away from difficult topics, lending a voice to the importance of mental health through Malcolm, exploring systematic racism through NYPD detectives JT Tarmel and Dani Powell, and the complex relationships as these characters grew to know each other.

Not ones to go down without a fight, Prodigies had not only started a petition to save the show a full three days before the official announcement from the network but have also created a website to track efforts to get the show renewed. The website, saveprodigalson.com, details everything from statistics to the latest hashtags to use on Twitter to help the social media campaign. Fans can sign the petition here and share it via social media as well as follow the fan-run Twitter page @ProdigalSaviors run by the same team who launched the website. If you’re looking to get involved in the efforts to save Prodigal Son, signing the petition and checking out saveprodigalson.com is a great place to start.

The cancellation announcement comes just over a week before the season 2 finale, which we can almost guarantee will be a cliffhanger if season 1 was any indication. We’ll continue to bring you the latest coverage on the beloved show until the season 2 finale which will air Tuesday, May 18.
