Killjoys, make some noise!

Dark Horse Comics has announced that Gerard Way and Shaun Simon’s hit 2013 comic series The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys will be getting another premium release — an oversized Deluxe Edition. This new release follows the 2020 hardcover California Library Edition.

The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys was created by Way and Simon, with art by Becky Cloonan, colors by Dan Jackson, and letters by Nate Piekos. The series picks up years later in the aftermath of the underlying story told within My Chemical Romance’s 2010 album The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, which followed the exploits of Party Poison, Fun Ghoul, Jet Star, and Kobra Kid.

“Years ago, the Killjoys fought against the tyrannical megacorporation Better Living Industries, costing them their lives, save for one — the mysterious Girl. Today, the followers of the original Killjoys languish in the Desert while BLI systematically strips citizens of their individuality. As the fight for freedom fades, it’s left to the Girl to take up the mantle and bring down the fearsome BLI!”

The California Deluxe Edition consists of 144 pages, collecting issues #1-5. It also includes a slipcase designed by Tony Ong, an exclusive print by Becky Cloonan, the short story “Dead Satellites,” and the expanded sketchbook section from the Limited Edition. It’s currently available for pre-order via Amazon and other retailers, and will officially release on October 20.

In the meantime, catch up on our coverage of Way and Simon’s The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys: National Anthem, an alternate take on the Killjoys concept that explores the creators’ original ideas for the series hatched all the way back in 2008.
