Oh My! George Takei Joins MegaCon Orlando and FanExpo Dallas
George Takei is celebrating his birthday week this year with a gift for his fans: he has announced his return to conventions later this year.
Perhaps best known for his founding role in Star Trek as helmsman of the Starship Enterprise Hikaru Sulu, Takei’s acting career has spanned six decades. The actor, author, and activist is a powerful voice on whatever topic he choses to tackle, be it pop culture or politics, and with 2.8 million Twitter followers it isn’t hard to see why. Takei has also been a popular celebrity at conventions in the past, so it is exciting to see him planning to return to conventions as soon as conventions resume.
For both MegaCon and FanExpo Dallas Takei is set to appear on Saturday and Sunday, offering autographs for $80 and photo ops for $100. The conventions have not yet announced any panels that will feature Takei, but over the course of two days there is no doubt that fans will have plenty of opportunities to see the star in action.
Both conventions faced delays and ultimately cancellation in 2020 and are now set to take place August 12 through 15 (MegaCon) and September 17 through 19 (FanExpo). Outside of Takei and the four hobbits (Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan, and Billy Boyd) there have been no major announcements for either event, but we can expect more guest announcements over the coming months. Be sure to check back here for updates as we get closer to the dates, and make sure to visit the MegaCon Orlando and FanExpo Dallas websites to buy your tickets.
