Angela Bassett Wins Critics Choice Super Award for Best Actress in an Action Series for ‘9-1-1’
The first-ever Critics Choice Super Awards were held tonight on The CW, and many films and series were nominated. 9-1-1, as well as Angela Bassett, were both contenders in the Best Action Series and Best Actress in an Action Series categories respectively. Though 9-1-1 unfortunately lost to History’s Vikings, Bassett took home the Best Actress award! Bassett was up against Jennifer Connelly from Snowpiercer, Esme Creed-Miles from Hanna, Mireille Enos from Hanna, Katheryn Winnick from Vikings, and Alison Wright from Snowpiercer.
Created by Ryan Murphy, 9-1-1 follows the lives of first responders at firehouse 118 in Los Angeles as well as the LAPD and first premiered on FOX in January 2018. Three years and one spin-off later, the show is gearing up for its biggest season yet, as the first responders will be saving people during a major mudslide. Bassett’s Athena Grant Nash is an LAPD Sergeant and remains one of the most badass and powerful characters on the show for her tough love and gut instincts, risking her life to help people and to make sure those who should serve time do.
