WATCH: Celebrating 40 Years of ‘Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back’ With Dave Filoni, Taika Waititi, Diego Luna, and More!
“The Empire Strikes Back delivered one of the best sequels in the history of cinema,” said Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. And truer words have never been spoken.
2020 marks 40 years since Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back premiered in theaters, and this legendary film has left a lasting mark on the world, one that refuses to fade even decades later. Set three years after the events that took place in A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back follows the Rebel Alliance as they’re pursued across the galaxy by the ruthless Galactic Empire. Darth Vader and his elite forces close in on Han Solo, Princess Leia, and Chewbacca, while Luke Skywalker seeks out the wise Jedi Master Yoda in order to learn how to properly use the Force.
Earlier this week, a featurette with a collection of rare and never-before-seen outtakes, behind-the-scenes footage, and bloopers from the making of The Empire Strikes Back was released. Now, to continue the celebration of the film’s 40th anniversary, Lucasfilm has released another short video in which some of the talent and production crew members that continue to keep the Star Wars legacy alive today share their thoughts and memories of the film. The featurette includes voice commentary from Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard, Pedro Pascal, Deborah Chow, Leslye Headland, Taika Waititi, and Diego Luna.
