Since the beginning of the pandemic, movie theaters, concerts, conventions, and more have been forced to close and postpone their events. Among the closures are all Broadway shows in New York City. As a result, many shows have been canceled or postponed, including a revival of The Music Man starring Hugh Jackman. Previews for the show will now begin December 20, 2021, with its opening night slated for February 10, 2022.

The Music Man follows traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the residents of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a band he claims he’ll start, despite his incredible lack of musical knowledge. When he makes plans to flee the town with the money he’s gained, he instead falls for Marian, a librarian who turns Harold from a con man to someone respectable. Jackman will take up the role of Harold, co-starring with Sutton Foster, who will play Marian.

Broadway is scheduled to lift the curtains once more on May 30, 2021.
