The third single of their upcoming album is laden with the harmonies that the girls are known for, with the undercurrent of the trap style beat and their declarative lyrics Little Mix showcases their range with a fresh new sound. Singing “I don’t do what Simon says”, the group caused a stir with fans speculating that this is a reference by the group to their breakup with Simon Cowell after leaving his label, Syco in 2018. “Not a Pop Song” hints at the creative expression and freedom within the subject matter to come in their upcoming album Confetti, transcending notions of the ‘generic’ pop music: proclaiming “anything is better than another pop song ‘bout falling in love.”
