Created by former Chicago Bear and Pro Bowl linebacker Lance Briggs and Kyle Higgins (Ultraman, Nightwing) and illustrated by Danilo Beyruth, with colors by Tamra Bonvillain and lettering by Hassan Otsmane-Elaou, The Trap combines the world of sci-fi and sports to tell a story about race and economic inequality.
The Trap tells the story of a rising sports star named Jaylen Robinson, a young man living on planet Earth. Jaylen has worked hard his entire life and is now said to be the next big thing in surfriding. His future is looking bright until things take a turn for the worst for the young athlete. Only days from a race that could change Jaylen’s life, his surfrider is in need of repairs. The only problem is Jaylen doesn’t have the money to pay for the repairs. Faced with very few options, Jaylen makes the desperate decision to boost the ship belonging to one of Earth’s interstellar Senators. But things go wrong when Jaylen accidentally shoots the Senator. Jaylen’s promising sports career is quickly slipping away, submitting to The Trap.
Inspired by his life before becoming an NFL superstar, The Trap has been a passion project for Briggs, and in the last year and a half he has worked with Higgins along with their creative team to bring the world a gripping tale about mistakes and second chances. The Trap combines technology, sports, species, and interstellar status quo to showcase the real-life challenges we face. The Trap is an inspirational story perfect for readers of all ages.
The fast-paced original story is 120 pages and will be presented as a hardcover graphic novel designed by Sasha E. Head. If you are interested in learning more about The Trap and would like to support their campaign, please visit The Trap Kickstarter website here.
