Nina Dobrev, who many fans know as Elena Gilbert in The Vampire Diaries, has an exciting new project! According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bruna Papandrea, a producer and founder of the Made Up Stories production company, has gained the rights to develop the adaption from author Greer Macallister. Not only will Dobrev star as Charlotte but she will also help executive produce the series alongside Papandrea, Steve Hutensky, Casey Haver, and producer Janice Park. Macallister, whose third novel is Woman 99, will be a consulting producer for the television series.

Here is the description of the novel, courtesy of Barnes and Noble:

When Charlotte Smith’s wealthy parents commit her beloved sister Phoebe to the infamous Goldengrove Asylum, Charlotte knows there’s more to the story than madness. She risks everything and follows her sister inside, surrendering her real identity as a privileged young lady of San Francisco society to become a nameless inmate, Woman 99.

The longer she stays, the more she realizes that many of the women of Goldengrove aren’t insane, merely inconvenient — and that her search for the truth threatens to dig up secrets that some very powerful people would do anything to keep.

Rich in detail, deception, and revelation, Woman 99 honors the fierce women of the past, born into a world that denied them power but underestimated their strength.”

The series will touch on mental illness, social inequality, and injustice. It will also give a mention to how women were treated throughout this time period. It’s sure to have a thrilling story many fans can be excited about!
