Netflix has released a new trailer and confirmed a release date for The Half of It, a coming-of-age romance film starring Nancy Drew‘s Leah Lewis. The film is written and directed by Alice Wu, best known for 2005’s Saving Face. The synopsis released by Netflix is as follows:

Shy, straight-A student Ellie Chu feels isolated and friendless in her remote, backwater town of Squahamish, where she makes some much-needed extra cash penning homework papers for her fellow high school students. Ellie reluctantly agrees to help the lovelorn school jock Paul Munsky write love letters to Aster Flores, the girl they both secretly love. As all three embark on an unexpected journey of discovery, they form a complicated triangle of friendship as they come to terms with their own unexpected feelings about love and find connection in the most unlikely of places.

The Half of It also stars Alexxis Lemire, Daniel Diemer, Becky Ann Baker, Catherine Curtin, Wolfgang Novogratz, Enrique Murciano, and Collin Chou. The film was originally scheduled to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, but the event was canceled due to the coronavirus. As a result, Netflix will release the film on May 1.
