FAN EXPO HQ has joined forces with The Kubert School to deliver special workshops that will be available at multiple conventions this year. The Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art, Inc. is located in Dover, NJ and is known worldwide for delivering comprehensive education in cartoons and graphic art. Their alumni include Andy Kubert, Amanda Conner, Lee Weeks, and more.

“We look at the world of pop culture fandom as an ecosystem. When we can engage and educate as part of our unique offering in top markets, it’s a win for everyone. Partnering with a trusted name like The Kubert School is rooted in collaboration and the drive for quality,” said Vice President of FAN EXPO Andrew Moyes.

With this collaboration, they have programmed the curriculum for three classes for creators and attendees at FAN EXPO Dallas (March 27-29, 2020), Megacon Orlando (April 16-19, 2020), Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo (April 23-26, 2020), FAN EXPO Boston (August 7-9, 2020) and FAN EXPO Canada (August 27-30, 2020).

There is a two-day intensive workshop that takes place four hours per day called “Becoming a Pro.” An instructor from the school will help attendees create a worthy portfolio creation that will grab the attention of a hiring editor. They will also have a one-on-one portfolio review.

“The Joy of Comics: A Beginners’ Class #1” is a one-hour intensive workshop that shows participants the incredible art form that is comics. This all-ages class will cover creating your characters and starting your journey in comics. There is also a “The Joy of Comics: A Beginners’ Class #2” that will include creating a dynamic cover.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to be able to present a portion of our curriculum to students who might not be able to attend our full-time program. Cultivating the next batch of exciting new artists for this industry is key, and we are so honored to carry on the legacy of Joe Kubert in which he set forth to do just that,” says Anthony Marques, President of The Kubert School.
