It has been confirmed that Dwayne Johnson will be playing the DC anti-hero character of Black Adam. Along with the announcement was the release of a poster and the release date of December 22, 2021. Not much is currently known about the film’s plot or other castings yet.

Announcing on his Instagram account, Johnson said,

“I’m honored to join the iconic DC Universe and it’s a true pleasure to become BLACK ADAM. BLACK ADAM is blessed by magic with the powers equal to SUPERMAN, but the difference is he doesn’t toe the mark or walk the line. He’s a rebellious, one of a kind superhero, who’ll always do what’s right for the people – but he does it his way. Truth and justice – the BLACK ADAM way. This role is unlike any other I’ve ever played in my career and I’m grateful to the bone we’ll all go on this journey together”

Otto Binder and C. C. Beck created the fictional character as an enemy of Shazam and the Marvel family. He is a corrupted anti-hero that was again reintroduced in the 1990s by DC comic book writers as trying to clear his name and reputation. Like Shazam, his powers come from saying the word “Shazam”. By saying that, he gets certain abilities like “the stamina of Shu, the swiftness of Heru (Horus), the strength of Amon, the wisdom of Zehuti (Thoth), the power of Aton, and the courage of Mehen. He does not draw powers from Shazam due to the demoness Blaze making a deal with the Egyptian god Set.”

Black Adam is set to be released to theaters on December 22, 2021.
