“I’ll tell you what I want, what I really really want. So tell me what you want, what you really really want.”

That’s right, the Spice Girls are back and are hitting the big screen!

All five members of the iconic girl group will be returning in a new movie, but this time as animated superheroes.

Here is what we know so far. The movie will be written by Karen McCullah (10 Things I Hate About You) and Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith (House Bunny), and will be produced by Simon Fuller (So You Think You Can Dance). It will feature some of their classic songs and brand new ones as well. As of right now, we believe we could see the movie released in 2020.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Animation president Mireille Soria mentions that the girls “are very involved.”

The Spice Girls consist of Melanie Brown (Scary), Emma Bunton (Baby), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty), Geri Halliwell (Ginger), and Victoria Beckham (Posh). They formed the band in 1994 and released their first hit single “Wannabe” in 1996. They have released three CDs as a group: Spice, Spiceworld, and Forever. The women have been credited for breaking into the male-dominated pop music genre and opening the way for future girl groups.

The musical icons have been positive role models for decades. Their “Girl Power” sent the message to girls and women that being strong, loyal, and empowered was possible and important. Band member Halliwell often wore the slogan on her clothing and would say it while giving the peace sign. It was also featured on official Spice Girls merchandise.

The Spice Girls were indeed icons of the 1990s. Since then, they have had multiple world tours, solo projects, and even a previous movie, Spice World (1997).

Currently, Mel B, Mel C, Emma, and Geri are on a world tour. Stay tuned for updates as they become available.
