It’s the penultimate episode! After Nathaniel and Garrett had hijacked the Zephyr with Jemma and Deke onboard, Nathaniel tries everything he can to figure out where exactly Fitz is, and that includes digging deep into Jemma’s memories. But the deeper he digs, the farther away Fitz could get. Meanwhile, Daisy, Sousa, and Mack take the Quinjet to try to save Jemma and Deke while Coulson, May, and Yo-Yo hang back at the Lighthouse with Kora to try to talk some sense into her. They also figure out Sibyl’s big plan that could spell trouble for S.H.I.E.L.D. worldwide. May, Daisy, and Sousa try to track the Zephyr but it soon disappears, dropped off satellite. Yo-Yo, Mack, and Coulson return in the Quinjet and the others race to meet them, hoping Kora has answers. May tells Daisy that Kora can’t know about Jiaying’s death but Daisy says she should know what her boyfriend did. Kora’s not stable, May thinks that hearing that her mother died might set her off. Coulson, Mack and Yo-Yo bring in Kora and the other prisoners, having dropped off the potential Inhumans at a hospital and made sure they were being taken care of. Daisy immediately pushes Kora into the wall with her powers, wondering where they took Jemma. Mack orders Daisy to put Kora down and Daisy does. Kora tries to catch her breath and tells Daisy there’s no reason to hurt each other. She’s there to help.
With the Zephyr now in space, Nathaniel tells someone to send the signal, S.H.I.E.L.D. won’t be able to follow them at this range. Deke, meanwhile, is trying to sneak through the ship but Garrett pops in, pointing a blaster at Deke when he turns around.

After locking up Nathaniel’s other goons, Mack tells Yo-Yo that when they confronted the older Gordon, Fitz designed a device to trap him in a room. If they can find Fitz’s specs on the hard drive, they should be able to rig something up. Mack knows there’s strategy at play because Sibyl has been predicting their every move. Coulson, Daisy, and May talk to Kora, who tells them she’s the perfect candidate, with the perfect instrument to save lives. Coulson wonders what “instruments” those are, and she tells him that it is knowledge of history yet to be written, lives have already been spared with it. Kora apologizes about Mack’s parents. They didn’t have to die, but it was also proof he needed. Coulson figures out that it’s proof that this is a new timeline. Mack still remembers growing up with parents, Daisy grew up without a sister because Kora died alone weeks ago, yet here they are. It’s a brand new day, Kora wonders why not let S.H.I.E.L.D. make this universe the best it can be, by killing? Daisy wants to talk to her sister alone, but Kora already knew she would say that thanks to Sibyl.
Daisy and Kora go to another room to talk and Kora says that Nathaniel thinks S.H.I.E.L.D. is another institution hell-bent on control. Maybe in an old timeline it was but Kora believes there’s a chance they could work together. Kora admits she always wanted a sibling, they have the same blood, Daisy believes in S.H.I.E.L.D. Kora grew up in Afterlife, she wasn’t aware, she was confined. She’s sorry that Daisy didn’t have a mother to love, that she didn’t have a happy childhood, Daisy’s sorry she threw it away. Kora just wants to spend time together, to talk, with the both of them on the same page they can do anything. Sibyl said there is no future where Daisy lets her sister fight alone. Daisy says that Sibyl was right and throws the keys for the handcuffs to Kora.
Nathaniel is trying to tap in to Jemma’s memories to find any trace of Fitz and where he might be. He’s getting frustrated as all he’s seeing his old memories with Fitz. He’s supposed to be able to see whatever he wants, but Jemma’s blocking him. She tells him that she’s not doing anything, maybe it’s him. Nathaniel slaps her, wanting her to tell him how. Jemma doesn’t give in and over a walkie, Nathaniel tells Garrett to bring in the grandson. Jemma pleads with Nathaniel that Deke doesn’t know anything. Garrett brings in Deke, who has clearly been beaten up.
Daisy walks through the Lighthouse and bumps into Sousa. She knows that he wants to help, but she has to do this on her own. Sousa follows her, having learned a long time ago to not let somebody do something stupid on their own. Daisy wonders if he ever left his post, snuck off the base and played pool and got drunk. Sousa asks if Daisy thinks he’d be the kind of person to do that and Daisy tells him this will be his first time. They sneak onto the Quinjet and Daisy tells Sousa that Sibyl’s whole plan is based on her projections. The only way to get ahead is to act unpredictably, do things against their nature. For Sousa, it’s leaving his post and for Daisy, Sibyl dropped Kora in her lap because they knew she’d want to save her. Daisy says they’ll find the Zephyr, aim for it, burn the rest of their fuel and float. She says flying the Quinjet is going to be a piece of cake. Mack comes in, wondering how she’s going to get the hangar doors open without Director authorization. Daisy tells him that this is the only way to bring back Deke and Jemma. Mack grants authorization for the Quinjet and settles in.

May and Coulson watch the Quinjet disappear off the radar and Coulson says they’re heading to space. It’s up to them to predict Kora’s next move and Coulson asks May what she was feeling off her, and May says she seemed sincere. Coulson suggests May take a run at Kora and see what else comes to the surface. After talking to Kora, who has caused a power outage throughout the Lighthouse, May tells Coulson she took out the power with one punch. Coulson notices that Kora also lowered the firewalls for Sibyl. That’s what Kora was there for, Sibyl was still in the power grid and now she’s back in their computers. Sibyl writes that they killed her hunters and to prepare to meet the same fate. May wonders if Coulson can read the rest of it. He knows what it’s like to be code.
Nathaniel keeps wondering how she’s blocking him from Fitz and he sees the implant. Deke starts to talk back to Nathaniel but he uses Daisy’s powers and knocks him out. He tells another guy to find out a way to get it out of Jemma’s head. Jemma tells Nathaniel she’s the only one who can use the scanner to take out the implant. Nathaniel’s going to climb into Jemma’s mind with her. Jemma tells him that the more he digs, the deeper Fitz will go until he disappears completely. “Then the race is on.” Nathaniel lays down, right by Jemma, and starts searching her memories with Fitz.

Coulson tells May that Sibyl’s looking for communication files. All he can do is slow her down, and the only person who can purge her from the power is Kora. Coulson says they have to get her to come around. Coulson volunteers May to talk to her again, saying they’re not who they used to be. Last time May was trying to get a rise to see how dangerous Kora is. Now she can see how good she can be, like she always did with her sister, with him. A new code shows on the monitors to unlock cell doors and Nathaniel’s soldiers are free. Before they have the chance to do anything, Yo-Yo takes them and tells May and Coulson about the automatic locks. Durant tells them he was just following orders. Coulson tells Kora those are the lives Nathaniel is saving, not heroes, hit men who now owe their lives to him. And so does she. They want her to stop helping Nathaniel, and the Chronicoms sow chaos. They’re tearing them away from a timeline they need to restore. Kora uses her powers to burn a hole right through Durant’s chest, killing him.
Kora says she can keep pushing the stream back toward their timeline if they want or they start checking names off her list. “Not a chance.” Yo-Yo wonders what the first name on the list is, even though May and Coulson don’t want to go along with it. “Grant Ward.” Coulson tells her that he’s just a child right now and Kora says that so much pain can be averted with one death. He wonders if Garrett’s next, then, since it was her Messiah’s right hand who made Ward who he was. They’ve seen a world where Ward was good, where he was put on the right path by the right person. Coulson says that people can change, even Kora. Jiaying thought that too and Kora says this is who she is, who she’s meant to be. And someday, she’s going to show her mother that.
Nathaniel finds another memory of Jemma and Fitz and he cycles through their last memories together. Jemma and Fitz are talking about the implant, Jemma not wanting to forget, and Nathaniel keeps looking around, wondering where they are. Jemma is saying, “I don’t want to forget” over and over again and soon she’s alone. She and Nathaniel wake up and Nathaniel leaves. Jemma gets off the table and goes straight to Deke, wondering if he’s okay. He asks her what happened in there. He’s guessing from Nathaniel’s attitude that he didn’t find Fitz. “Fitz? Who’s Fitz?”

May takes Kora to see Jiaying and after she lifts the sheet, Kora says it’s okay, she can heal. She tries to help, telling Jiaying to take her energy, but it’s no use. Kora sees that her neck is shattered and wonders where her sister is. May tells her she knows who did this. Kora says that he must have had a reason and May says her mother died protecting Daisy from him. May says that all Nathaniel wants is chaos and Kora starts punching her. May fights back and Kora burns a hole through the wall when she misses May. A force field is up around Kora and Garrett jumps in, telling her it’s time to go.
Coulson manages to pull up the last thing that Sibyl accessed, and it’s a map of the S.H.I.E.L.D. bases. Everything from the Hub to the Sandbox. He realizes they didn’t go to space to hide. Meanwhile on the Quinjet, Mack gets a visual on the Zephyr and Daisy and Sousa prepare to dock. A breach opens up and Chronicom ships appear. On the Zephyr, Nathaniel says that Sibyl contacted her home planet years ago and had her Hunters make some modifications to their fleet. The signal they sent called them there. The ships start blasting and Coulson contacts the Hub, but they soon lose signal. Each base, one after the other on the map, reads “Communications Lost.” “They’re doing it. They’re destroying S.H.I.E.L.D.”
