Interview: Osric Chau About ‘Supernatural’, D’irk Gently’ & More! [EXCLUSIVE]

Osric Chau is a beloved actor who played Kevin Tran on The CW’s Supernatural, Vogle on Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and appeared on Comic-Con HQ’s Kings of Con! He also appears frequently at Creation Entertainment’s Salute to Supernatural conventions, which host conventions all over the world.

We had the chance to ask Osric a few questions about Kevin’s send-off, Dirk Gently and his love for video games and Pokémon GO. Read the interview below!

Nerds and Beyond: How was working on Supernatural different from working on other projects? Has attending conventions changed your perception of fandoms?

Osric Chau: It was the first time in this career where I felt like I had a normal job. I got to see the same faces again and again, I had an office to go back to, and for the first time in a decade, I had a sense of structure in my life. The cast and crew were so welcoming that it really didn’t take long before it felt like a family so when I heard the term SPNFamily it just made perfect sense.
I’ve been a part of many fandoms before but this was the first time I actually participated in one. Getting to meet and interact with the fandom in person really makes you appreciate everything you do on set as well. Most of the time I don’t think too much about the repercussions of what I do on set but after going to a few conventions I started to think of random easter eggs that I could do or leave and wonder if anyone would pick up on them if they made the cut.

Nerds and Beyond: You played Jim Moriarty in the Hillywood Show’s Sherlock parody. Are you a fan of Sherlock? If so, what would your dream role on the show be?

Osric: Such a great show! Big fan. I would absolutely love to do a guest star on Sherlock for an episode. I’ll be the youngest ambassador from Canada coming on official business. Moriarty can take me captive and we can hang out for a bit while he tortures me and threatens Sherlock with my mortality.

Nerds and Beyond: Are you currently filming Dirk Gently Season 2? Or will that be filming soon?

Osric: Shooting starts up in May! I’m very excited about heading back to Vancouver for that.

Nerds and Beyond: Are there any other projects coming up that you’re working on?

Osric: Dirk Gently will take up most of my year but I am using my spare time to do some personal projects with some friends. A couple of short films for festivals and writing and developing feature film scripts. Hopefully I can find one that I like and be able to produce and star in my first feature film in the near future.

Nerds and Beyond: What were your thoughts on Kevin’s final send off last season on Supernatural?

Osric: It was really nice to be back on that set and to see everyone again. Bittersweet as always as this time felt like a real good bye. But definitely some closure for my time with the show. Supernatural‘s always gonna be a soft spot for me no matter what I end up doing in the future.

Nerds and Beyond: Are you still playing Pokémon Go?

Osric: I had to stop, it was taking over my life like most video games. I stopped after the expansion came out. Just like the anime and the original games. 150 pokemon was my limit. I don’t even want to listen a pokerap with 450 names. I’m oldschool that way.

Nerds and Beyond: Are there any other video games you’re playing right now?

Osric: Not at the moment. Games have always been a black hole for me unfortunately. Casual gaming is hard. I’ve just got too much work I want to do and not enough time.

A big thank you to Osric for taking the time to answer our questions!

Fans Push for Matt Cohen as “Nightwing”

0

It was announced a few weeks ago that Warner Bros. was planning to make a film on Nightwing (also known as Dick Grayson), with The Lego Batman Movie director Chris McKay.

The film would join the rise of the DC Universe films, as Justice League, Wonder Woman and Aquaman are scheduled to release over the next few years. More DC Universe films have also been announced or are in the works, including a solo Batman film.

With news of the Nightwing film, fans are pushing for actor Matt Cohen to be considered for the role and using the hashtag, #MattForNightwing.

Matt definitely looks like Nightwing. You can see that by comparing his photos to the art of Nightwing. He’s also a fantastic actor with recurring roles on General Hospital, Supernatural, Kings of Con and How to Get Away with Murder.

One plus is that Matt already has quite a following. He currently has 239,000 followers on Twitter, 171,000 followers on Instagram and 40,000 followers on Facebook. He’s regularly seen at conventions, such as the Supernatural convention and the General Hospital convention and he’s one of the most likable and genuine people in his various fandoms.

Understandably, the role could already be cast. But, it’s cool to see when fans rally behind their favorite actors to support them in roles and it really speaks volumes to the fandom and how much they respect Matt.

We asked fans to tell us why Matt should be Nightwing and we received a ton of replies. See what some of the fans are saying on twitter below.

“Satu’li Canteen” in “Pandora – The World of Avatar” Will Be First to Offer Mobile Order

Disney revealed quite a few things about the new restaurant, Satu’li Canteen, that is located inside Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort.

First, the “fast-casual” restaurant will be the first to offer Mobile Order – a new option that will allow you to order and pay for means within the My Disney Experience app, allowing guests to bypass the line to order when they arrive at the restaurant. You’ll be able to select menu items, customize your order and then pre-pay for your meal.

Once you arrive to the restaurant, you’ll tap an “I’m here” button on the app which notifies the kitchen you’ve arrived. When ready, you’ll be alerted through the app to pick up your meal at a designated spot. Additional fast-casual and quick-service restaurants will begin to offer Mobile Order later this year. This is a step up from what you can currently do at Be Our Guest inside Magic Kingdom, where you can order ahead of time to skip the order line.

Disney also announced more information about the restaurant. You’ll be able to enjoy dishes with wholesome grains, fresh vegetables and hearty proteins, and an on-stage grill is featured in the dining room. There will be colorful Na’vi items on the walls and hanging from the ceiling, tapestries, Pandoran elements and much more.

Satu’li Canteen will open with Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom on May 27, 2017!

Disney‘s live-action Pete’s Dragon is now available on Netflix! Based off the 1977 animated film, this new version stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Oakes Fegley, Wes Bentley, Karl Urban and Robert Redford. The film opened in theaters on August 12, 2016.

Synopsis

For years, old wood carver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales…until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley). Pete is a mysterious 10-year-old with no family and no home who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliott. And from Pete’s descriptions, Elliott seems remarkably similar to the dragon from Mr. Meacham’s stories. With the help of Natalie (Oona Laurence), an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack (Wes Bentley) owns the local lumber mill, Grace sets out to determine where Pete came from, where he belongs, and the truth about this dragon.
