Zack Snyder’s ‘Army of Thieves’ Releases First Trailer

0

Netflix has announced a new movie from the talented mind of Zack Snyder! Fans of his Army of the Dead film will be excited to learn about Army of Thieves. This movie will be a prequel and will continue Snyder’s journey into the new take on his bank heist meets zombies genre. The genre that continues to grow with several other projects already in the works.

This prequel will be set around the beginning of the zombie outbreak that viewers saw at full force in Army of the Dead. The trailer begins at a safe cracking competition where we are introduced to Ludwig Dieter, played by Matthias Schweighöfer. Soon Ludwig is recruited by the mysterious Gwendoline, played by the talented Nathalie Emmanuel, that many viewers will recognize from Game of Thrones. As Gwendoline introduces the rest of the heist team, we get to meet some very interesting characters. Ruby O. Fee plays Korina, the team’s master hacker. Guz Khan as Rolph the very enthusiastic get away driver. Last but not least we meet Stuart Martin as Brad Cage, the quintessential action hero of the group.

This team was put together for one reason and one reason only: to locate and crack three huge high profile safes. The trailer gives off a very high action vibe with lots of stunts, screams, and dangerous moments. But not lost in the heist atmosphere is the quirky sense of humor which was very much front and center. As the trailer closes one quote that stood out to me was, “This is about becoming legends.”

Army of Thieves will be premiering on Netflix October 29. Acting as producers on the series will be Schweighöfer and Snyder. Alongside them will be Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller, and Dan Maag. Stay tuned to Nerds & Beyond for more news and updates!

Allons-Y! Russell T. Davies Returns to ‘Doctor Who’ for 60th Anniversary Special

0

Veteran screenwriter and Doctor Who Showrunner Russell T. Davies is to once again take charge of the BBC sci-fi show that he originally helped revive back in 2005. He is taking over from Chris Chibnall, current showrunner, in 2023. This places him at the helm for Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary special “and series beyond,” as noted in the official announcement.

Davies will be in an Executive Producer role alongside Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter. Both Gardener and Tranter were key players in the show’s return to television after 16 years when Davies was originally Showrunner. This experienced lineup feels like a deliberate attempt to guide Doctor Who back toward the energy of those early reboot years — such a move is largely unprecedented. The show has not had many executives return (Robert Holmes and Barry Letts in the 1980s are the only ones of note) and certainly never a showrunner.

No change in the leadership of a show as established as Doctor Who is ever universally welcomed, but reactions to the announcement so far seem to be overwhelmingly excited.

Davies breathed new life into the world of the Doctor during his first tenure. He worked on the relaunched Doctor Who for five years. In that time, he brought us the 9th and 10th Doctors, Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant. With viewing figures in the latest season flagging, it’s already been said that maybe Davies can help save the show for a second time.

Season 14 will be a co-production between BBC Studios and Welsh-based Bad Wolf. The production studio is owned by Davies’ co-execs and returning Doctor Who alums Gardner and Tranter. When Davies, who is Welsh, revived the show 16 years ago he moved production to Wales. Doctor Who’s successful spinoff Torchwood — written by Davies alongside current Doctor Who showrunner Chibnall — was based in Wales too, so it is no surprise that Davies would want to partner with Bad Wolf for his return to the show.

One of Davies first responsibilities will be to decide on the next Doctor. Jodie Whittaker, the current holder of the coveted role, confirmed her exit from the show back in July. She will film a new six-part series later this year, and three specials next year, before she leaves. The current showrunner, Chibnall, will exit alongside her.

In the official announcement, Chibnall had this to say: “It’s monumentally exciting and fitting that Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary will see one of Britain’s screenwriting diamonds return home. Russell built the baton that is about to be handed back to him – Doctor Who, the BBC, the screen industry in Wales, and let’s be honest everyone in the whole world, have so many reasons to be Very Excited Indeed about what lies ahead.”

Davies, though, seems keen to keep the attention on the current showrunner and Doctor for now. “I’m beyond excited to be back on my favorite show. But we’re time-travelling too fast, there’s a whole series of Jodie Whittaker’s brilliant Doctor for me to enjoy, with my friend and hero Chris Chibnall at the helm — I’m still a viewer for now,” he said.

‘Sex Education’: Season 4 Confirmed for Netflix

0

Continuing to add to the many exciting things to come out of Netflix’s fan event TUDUM, Sex Education fans can rejoice: the hit series will be getting a fourth season. News of the fourth season comes just over a week following the release of Season 3 of the show on September 17.

Although it certainly doesn’t reveal any key information, you can check out the announcement clip below.

Following the first season in 2019, Sex Education has been celebrated for many reasons, but perhaps none more-so than the incredible cast. Gillian Anderson brilliantly portrays Jean Milburn, a sex therapist and mother to Otis (Asa Butterfield). Otis, who the show primarily follows, not only struggles with normal puberty-related obstacles, but the obstacles his peers face thanks to teenage hormones. However, thanks to his straightforward mother and growing up in a house filled with books on sex, gender, and resolving bedroom issues, Otis has become somewhat of a sex expert.

Together with the rebellious Maeve (Emma Mackey), he sets up a “sex clinic” in his high school where he helps students with their problems and gives them advice, while also figuring out his own complex feelings and obstacles.

Season 4 does not currently have a release date, which gives you plenty of time to catch up on seasons 1-3 on Netflix.

‘Red Notice’: Watch the TUDUM Exclusive Sneak Peek Now!

During its massive fan-event TUDUM, Netflix released a sneak peek at its new upcoming film Red Notice. In the clip, we see FBI agent John Hartley and troublesome art-thief Nolan Booth meet dangerous criminal Sarah Black. What transpires next is an action (and humor) packed fight scene involving spears, shields, and just about any other artifact within range.

Watch the sneak peek below.

Red Notice stars Dwayne Johnson as FBI profiler John Hartley responding to an Interpol-issued “red notice,” or a global alert to hunt down the world’s most wanted. In a twist, the most-wanted art thief Nolan Booth (Ryan Reynolds) becomes Hartley’s partner as they attempt to catch an even more infamous criminal, Sarah Black (Gal Gadot).

You can check out this star-studded film when it comes to Netflix November 12.

‘The Witcher’: Season 2 Trailer, First Looks, and More!

0

During Netflix’s TUDUM event, the streaming giant had a lot to share in regards to their hit original book-adapted series, The Witcher.

The Witcher follows quite a few colorful characters living on the Continent, but primarily focuses on the witcher himself: Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill). A monster killer-for-hire, Geralt travels the Continent to have coins tossed his way in exchange for hunting and killing many dangerous monsters. Geralt’s travels in season 1 introduced us to a variety of characters such as Geralt’s love-interest, Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra), Ciri (Freya Allan), and fan-favorite Jaskier (Joey Batey).

Check out all of the exciting announcements and first looks from TUDUM below, including a full-length trailer for season 2 of The Witcher.

The Witcher Season 2

The Road to Season 2 Trailer

Following Season 1 nearly two years later, Season 2 will come to Netflix December 17. During the TUDUM event, fans received a full-length trailer full of footage from both Season 1 and new footage to come with Season 2. While the full-length trailer still leaves plenty of room for fans to theorize about what is to come with the second installment of this story, it is safe to assume that we will see Ciri and Yennefer receive more screen time this time around. Also, we haven’t seen the last of the bard since Geralt declined his offer to run away to the coast together.

As a reminder, the synopsis for Season 2 is as follows:

“Convinced that Yennefer’s (Anya Chalotra) life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla (Freya Allan) to the safest place he knows — his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.”

First Look: Nivellen

We also received a first look at Game of Thrones veteran and fan-favorite Kristofer Hivju as Witcher fan-favorite character Nivellen. In this clip we see a pair of old friends, Geralt of Rivia and Nivellen, reconnecting and playing a knife-throwing game as they discuss Geralt’s new position as Ciri’s guardian.

First Look: Geralt & Ciri

Speaking of Geralt’s new role as Ciri’s guardian, fans also received another first look clip. Here viewers are given a glimpse at how seriously Geralt is going to take this role as a guardian, and how there is never a moment’s peace for either of the pair. We also get to see Geralt’s closest friend and confidant, his trusty horse Roach.

Meet Vesemir

Netflix

Because he is worthy of his own mention as fan-favorite and main character of animated film Nightmare of the Wolf, our first look at Vesemir deserves to be featured as well. Kim Bodnia (Killing Eve) will bring Vesemir to life in Season 2.

The Witcher: Blood Origin Set Tour

The Witcher: Blood Origin showrunner Declan de Barra charismatically takes Witcher fans on a tour of the set so fans can get a slight idea of the behind the scenes vibe onset. We also get a look at one of the beautiful filming locations in Iceland while de Barra explains that the world of Blood Origin will be a world set before the books, exploring the events that converged the worlds of man and monster. As a bonus, de Barra also slid in the notion that there will be at least six seasons of The Witcher. If you missed that in the video, you can cut to that clip here.

The Witcher: Blood Origin stars Sophia Brown as Éile, Laurence O’Fuarain as Fjall, and Michelle Yeoh as Scían.

Announcements

Along with a second animated film following this year’s Nightmare of the Wolf and an additional kids and family spin-off series, The Witcher Season 3 was confirmed to be coming to Netflix in the future.

You can continue to check out our Witcher universe coverage here ahead of the December 17 release of Season 2.

‘Dynasty’ Recap: Season 4, Episode 21 “Affairs of State and Affairs of the Heart”

0

Fallon and Liam attend a weekend getaway full of truth and Dominique is hard at work to finalize her divorce. Plus, what happens when Kirby spills the Carrington secrets to Culhane? Read on to find out what happens in Dynasty‘s penultimate episode of season 4, “Affairs of State and Affairs of the Heart.”

Falliam reunites

Fallon claims to have called every hotel in the city looking for Liam before she finally stumbled upon him. She has booked a romantic getaway weekend for the two of them to spend time together. He’s willing to give her the weekend, noting he still needs time. Their getaway is going great, until they have to go inside the “truth tent.” Fallon tries to redirect Liam somewhere else but Liam believes that this is the way for her to prove that she’s in it for the long run with him.

Liam is upset that their marriage takes a backseat to everything in Fallon’s life, but he’s also mad at himself for not being the husband she deserves. Alls well that ends well? Right? Well… maybe not. Eva asks Liam to drop her necklace at the office for her when Fallon is meeting with Colin. He overhears their conversation and that Fallon has slept with Colin.

At home, Fallon is ready to tell Liam the truth, not knowing he is already well aware. They exchange words, crying, Liam tells her he can’t forgive her for this and they’re over. Eva, on the other hand, is flipping through a scrapbook she made of her and Liam, married. She puts on a veil and smiles at herself in the mirror.

Billionaire of the people

Blake is full steam ahead with his campaign to run for governor. While at an event, he gets stopped by the lieutenant governor who asks him to drop out of the race. Senator North told him all about Blake running to get ahold of government land. He promises that if Blake backs out he will get the land.

Culhane is upset that Blake is dropping out, effectively rendering his promises useless. Cristal attempts to reason; if Blake wins, they can have the land and keep their promises. Blake plays devil’s advocate by saying if he loses they get nothing.

Instead of backing down, Blake announces his support for an energy tax bill that funds education in Georgia. He has big plans for renewable energy and to preserve the future of the children. The lieutenant governor is obviously annoyed with Blake that he didn’t announce his depature from the race.

Kirby’s insurance

Culhane is furious with Blake and wonders why Kirby is still living at the manor. When she inquires about why he’s upset and he tells her, she tells him about the insurance Anders left her. Culhane is visibly shocked by some of the Carrington secrets, there’s enough in the book to take down Blake for good.

After flipping through the book, Culhane realizes it makes him feel dirty knowing what he knows. He suggests they burn the book. Kirby does but he doesn’t know she has a spare copy in her desk.

Dom’s divorce

Jeff is worried that Dom’s not-so-ex-husband is coming around now because of her newfound wealth. He insists that she find a way to finalize the divorce as soon as possible, before he gets his hands on half of her hard earned riches. He gives her his divorce attorney’s card and she gives him a call. However, there isn’t much he can do, legally. He calls her back to tell her that if she were to find a clerk willing to admit they made a clerical error, a judge could sign a nunc pro tunc and backdate the divorce.

Dominique hands over half of her assets to Brady because he’s legally entitled to them. When they get an official divorce, that money will be his. He rips it up. He doesn’t want her money, he wants a chance with the woman he fell in love with over 10 years ago. Dominique stops by Alexis’ penthouse to tell her the news. Once she leaves, Brady comes out and says he can’t believe he ripped up a seven figure check. Alexis promises that they will destroy Dominique.

The Dynasty season finale airs next Friday, October 1, on The CW. Episodes stream the next day on The CW app as well as cwtv.com. Season 4 will be available on Netflix starting October 22.

Brand New Clip of ‘Don’t Look Up’ Released During Netflix’s TUDUM Event

0

A brand new clip of Adam McKay’s upcoming Netflix film Don’t Look Up was shown at Netflix’s virtual TUDUM event.

The very Trump-esque President Orlean (Meryl Streep) is in a meeting with scientists Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence) and Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) discussing an incoming asteroid that will destroy the Earth as we know it. In a very anti-science mindset that we’ve come to be surrounded by in recent years, Orlean and her Chief of Staff/son, Jason (Jonah Hill), downplay the severity of the 99.78% chance of this asteroid hitting the Earth. But hey, at least it’s not 100%! So, let’s sit tight and assess …

“Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence), an astronomy grad student, and her professor Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) make an astounding discovery of a comet orbiting within the solar system. The problem — it’s on a direct collision course with Earth. The other problem? No one really seems to care. Turns out warning mankind about a planet-killer the size of Mount Everest is an inconvenient fact to navigate. With the help of Dr. Oglethorpe (Rob Morgan), Kate and Randall embark on a media tour that takes them from the office of an indifferent President Orlean (Meryl Streep) and her sycophantic son and Chief of Staff, Jason (Jonah Hill), to the airwaves of The Daily Rip, an upbeat morning show hosted by Brie (Cate Blanchett) and Jack (Tyler Perry). With only six months until the comet makes impact, managing the 24-hour news cycle and gaining the attention of the social media obsessed public before it’s too late proves shockingly comical — what will it take to get the world to just look up?!”

The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, Cate Blanchett, Tyler Perry, ark Rylance, Ron Perlman, Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Scott Mescudi (aka Kid Cudi), Himesh Patel, Melanie Lynskey, Michael Chiklis, and Tomer Sisley. Captain America star Chris Evans is also confirmed to have a cameo!

Don’t Look Up will premiere in theaters on December 10 and on Netflix December 24.

‘Dynasty’ Recap: Season 4, Episode 20 “You Vicious, Miserable Liar”

0

Blake is scheming, Jeff’s health is in question, and Fallon’s marriage is beginning to go downhill courtesy of Eva. Read on to find out what happens in Dynasty season 4, episode 20, “You Vicious, Miserable Liar.” Stay tuned for our recap of episode 21, which also aired last night.

The ultimate betrayal

Ever since the Carringtons threw Sam and La Mirage under the bus to protect their own from prying reporters having questions about Leo, Sam has had a rough time getting business. People are canceling their stay and reporters are calling him nonstop.

Because of this, he decides that maybe it’s time for him to think further about expanding the hotel by opening one in Los Angeles. Kirby is upset he didn’t tell her sooner, however, nothing is set in stone.

Sam realizes that buying a hotel is basically running from his problems. So, he decides to confront Blake and Cristal. They try to rectify the situation with empty apologies and wine tastings, which isn’t enough for Sam. They’ve tarnished his hotel brand and if they really see him as family, they wouldn’t have done that in the first place.

Fallon’s Hollywood ending

Kirby gives Fallon a magazine that helps inspire her to go to Los Angeles and fix her marriage with a mediator. She leaves Colin in charge of the office while she’s away and tells Eva not to bother her with any business-related things. As Fallon exits, Eva shoots Liam a text asking him what he’s up to.

The only way anything can get fixed is if Liam is also there, but he won’t answer any of her calls. Fallon calls the office to ask Eva if she’s heard from him at all, and Eva says he hasn’t, prying on exactly why Fallon is in Los Angeles. Fallon tells her and Eva looks more than elated. While on the phone with Fallon, she buys two tickets to see Brian Rosenthal and gives Liam a call asking him if he’d like to go with her.

When Fallon returns, Eva gives her notes of all the calls she missed while she was away. One in particular sticks out, a divorce attorney. Fallon thinks Liam must have hired him because he wants a divorce, but when Eva walks away, it’s clear she’s planting yet another seed. His missing pillow and the workers at the manor saying he was there briefly don’t help the cause. Colin appears in the office after hours because Eva needed him to drop off some files. While he’s there and Fallon’s confiding in him, things between them get hot and heavy, to say the least.

Jeff’s big investment

Jeff needs more money to get himself to Mars. At first, he asks for assistance from others to help get the funding, then he shifts to his internal assets. He’s selling off his own profitable business ventures to invest that money back into himself.

Jeff begins to think that he’s being spied on and there’s some corporate espionage going on. Culhane wonders if he’s still taking his neurotoxicity medication, which Jeff is offended by; of course, he’s still taking his medication. When Culhane leaves, he throws the bottle into his fire.

The Dynasty season finale airs next Friday, October 1, on The CW. Episodes stream the next day on The CW app as well as cwtv.com. Season 4 will be available on Netflix starting October 22.
