Metro Goldwyn Mayer’s (MGM) “Killer Klowns from Outer Space” lands at this year’s “Halloween Horror Nights” in all-new chilling mazes at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort.
Universal Studios has announced that Killer Klowns From Outer Space will land at this year’s “Halloween Horror Nights” in all-new chilling mazes! Twisted scenes and ghastly gags will abound at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort during the ultimate Halloween event.
Universal Studios described the exciting addition in a press release:
Based on the cult 1980s film favorite, the “Killer Klowns from Outer Space” mazes will transport guests to the sleepy small town of Crescent Cove, taken over by a pack of murderous clown-like creatures. Guests will be lured by the sweet smell of cotton candy and ice-cream and find themselves in an otherworldly circus tent where they’ll come face-to-face with the crazed klowns and their sinister, side-splitting antics. As they make their way through the Big Top Space Ship, guests will witness diabolical klowns making cotton candy cocoons from unsuspecting victims and will realize the joke’s on them as they are next to become the gooey snack. From one shrieking klown to the next, the mazes will lead guests through the doomed community of Crescent Cove to an eerie amusement park closed for the season. Trapped in a terrifying funhouse full of killer klowns, guests will be left screaming as there’s no stopping this twisted three-ring circus.
“Halloween Horror Nights” begins Friday, September 6 in Orlando and on Friday, September 13 in Hollywood. Additional details about the events will be revealed soon.

Temperatures were blazing, citing record highs for the month of July, but Dogwood Events launched a tour so hot summer couldn’t compete. Labeled the PBJ Tour, East Coast fans were treated to exemplary performances by guitarist Billy Moran and singer/songwriters Briana Buckmaster, Jason Manns and Paul Carella (with a special guest appearance by Hayden Lee for the last two stops in Charlotte and Atlanta.) As all of us here at Nerds and Beyond wind down from what we thought was the best thing since peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, we decided to highlight each of these incredible artists. Luckily for you, you’ve now stumbled upon The Gospel of Paul Carella. So take a seat, kick off your boots and join us as we let you know a little bit more about The Captain.

Paul Carella, the “Blues drivin’, Americana rockin’, Country jivin'” golf-loving singer and songwriter hailing from Glasgow, Scotland was the only member on the complete tour who has yet to grace the stage at a Creation Entertainment Supernatural Convention, where most (if not all) of the fans in attendance had been previously introduced to Jason, Briana and Billy. Did this give him a slight disadvantage? Maybe. But that sure didn’t stop him from making every member of the audience want to go out and buy a pair of red-soled shoes by the time he was done.
What did stop him maybe just a little bit, however? The heat. “Honestly, the biggest challenge on this tour was the heat, the first few days were incredibly hot and speaking as a Scotsman, it was tough, haha.” But that was it. “I enjoy pretty much every aspect of touring though, traveling and moving around a lot can take it out of you but it’s all part of what we do so I don’t particularly see it as a challenge.”

Paul harnessed a deep love of music from a young age, dancing around his living room to the great Elvis Presley at the age of four, however the most impressive facet of his musical upbringing is that he is completely self-taught. Crediting Johnny Cash and “Folsom Prison Blues” for being the catalyst to what we now know is greatness, Paul toured around small pubs and clubs in Glasgow, gaining the confidence and skills he showcases with ease on the stage today.
Watching Paul perform, there’s no question as to why he’s found the success he’s tirelessly strived for. His stage presence is cool, calm and collected, and when he picks up that guitar there’s no need for boisterous theatrics or flashing lights. His sultry acoustics and deep, smooth-as-aged-whiskey vocals will hypnotize you from the first note, a little piece of himself evident in every lyric. The love and passion he holds for his craft is apparent from the moment he takes the stage to his final bow and you can feel the appreciation he has not only for his work, but for every face sitting before him. There is no question that this is where he wants to be, this is what he wants to be doing and he takes no opportunity that comes his way for advantage.
Is mega-stardom something Paul aspires for? Not exactly. “No I wouldn’t say so, if it happens then great but it’s not something I’m striving for. I feel very fortunate that my hard work has paid off and I can do this job for a living and that’s the most important factor for me. If I can keep that going and grow at the same time, that’s what I’m striving for, mega stardom would be a bonus.”

There’s a certain magic to seeing artists in the smaller, more intimate settings like we saw on the #PBJTour. The trust between performer and audience is very palpable, there’s a closeness with the art and the receiver that just can’t be replicated in large-scale festivals and concerts. While the setting is quieter, as an audience member it’s exciting and almost electrifying, it’s an experience I personally cherish. When asked about the difference between playing larger festivals and smaller venues, Paul shared similar feelings — “For sure, it’s a completely different environment for me. These shows are much more intimate and you can really take your time and connect with your audience, a style which I prefer. Big festivals are great fun but you can, depending on the stage, lose that intimate feeling.”
We were treated to a variety of Paul’s originals (and a few covers), the set list varying at each stop, but none disappointing. But how could they be? His originals boast impressive melodies and soulful choruses, there’s no possibility of not finding one and falling head over heels for it (honestly, it’d be just as shocking if you only found one.) One setting stuck out amongst the rest for the man himself and the venue came as no surprise to us. “I loved all of it but Eddie’s Attic was pretty special, particularly the writers circle style show we did, I really enjoy that set up and we can share stories, jokes, experiences and music together on stage and Eddie’s Attic was a great setting for it.” Eddie’s Attic in Decatur is a fan favorite and was no doubt the perfect stage for the grand finale.

What does the future hold for Paul Carella? Beyond working with his promotion company he and Jason Manns collaboratively operate, Gallus Promotions, crafting a new album and touring? Acting! Already boasting two roles in television (The Victim and Trust Me) and a handful of commercials, we hope it isn’t too cliche to say the sky is the limit and we can’t wait to see what other projects are headed his way.
So now that you’re effectively convinced this is an artist you need featured on your playlist, we already know your next question: ‘Where can I find this amazing, never-to-be-replicated blend of Americana/Folk/Country/Rock music?’ Fear not, you can find all of his independently released albums and a few singles on Spotify, iTunes and his website. But now you’re saying ‘Okay cool, but I want to see him live too!’ We don’t blame you. Currently, he has a concert planned in London on August 17, 2019 with someone else you may know (Gil McKinney) and he’ll be at Rockwood Music Festival in Germany November 15-17, 2019. Follow both Paul and his promotion company Gallus Promotions on Twitter for announcements for future shows and albums.
By the way, if you fancy yourself a drink, Paul has graciously wagered a round on him if you can guess the inspiration behind “Chasing Echoes”.

Welcome to the first Q&A article of our Nerds and Beyond Book Club series! This month, we read I Wish You All the Best by Mason Deaver. We had our Book Club answer some questions after reading this new YA novel! Here’s what they had to say:
What was your initial reaction to this book?
Julia (@jahooliaa): I was a little surprised at how hopeful it was throughout. Ben struggled with a lot from the get go. Sometimes books with characters who struggle so much feel so hopeless, but I didn’t get that from Ben. Even though they felt hopeless sometimes, they tried really hard to push through it, and I really admire that about Ben and the story in general.
Nikki (@waywardnerd67): I was weary of reading this book at first. My views on LGBTQ community are limited. I never got the big deal about it, because it never affected me directly. Just in the last couple of years have I really come to know people within that community and empathize with them. Reading I Wish You All the Best has opened my eyes and heart in wonderful ways. Truly grasping the concept of “Love is Love” because I fell in love with Ben and Nathan’s story. Once I invested in Ben’s story, I could not put the book down.
Nicole (@nicmanz15): From the moment I read the description, I was excited to read it. Once I started, I automatically fell in love! I usually like to read a book over a couple of days so I can take it all in, but I couldn’t put it down and finished it in one day! (But then I re-read it a few days later, haha!) After I finished reading it, I was surprised at how much the story and characters stuck with me. Even after reading other books and having time pass, I still love and think about this book and Ben and Nathan all the time! I just love it!
What is your favorite quote/passage?
Julia (@jahooliaa): “When I think of Nathan, I think of warmth. Of reds, and oranges. But most of all, I think of yellow. That just seems like such a Nathan-y color. Happiness, joy, his optimism, that smile.”
Nikki (@waywardnerd67): “’It’s a hard thing to forget, isn’t it? Even harder to forgive.’ Dr. Taylor asks.”
Nicole (@nicmanz15): “‘Whatever happens’ — his grip tightens a little — ‘I wish you all the best, Benjamin De Backer.’ He says it with a smile. ‘You deserve it.’”
What scene stood out the most to you?
Julia (@jahooliaa): The scene when Ben shows Nathan the drawing Ben did of Nathan while he was studying stands out most. Even though Ben had shown Nathan their art before, this time was much more personal, I thought, and created a much deeper trust and willingness to be vulnerable with Nathan.
Nikki (@waywardnerd67): Ben and Hannah finally talking about her leaving when they were a kid. It ties into my favorite line that it is something hard to forget and even harder to forgive. I think we all have moments like that in our lives with people we love. How Ben copes with it afterwards shows an honest take of how depression and anxiety can be crippling. The whole chapter was one I could relate to personally.
Nicole (@nicmanz15): There are actually a few scenes that stood out the most to me and they all revolve around Ben and their anxiety/panic attacks. The way that their anxiety is written and the language used is the same way I describe my own feelings of panic and anxiety. It was so comforting to read and see myself in Ben, not only at these anxious points but overcoming them!
Waffles or Pancakes? 😉
Julia (@jahooliaa): Waffles, of course!!
Nikki (@waywardnerd67): Waffles! Fluffy goodness with syrup pockets. I mean… come on! Who doesn’t like pockets?
Nicole (@nicmanz15): WAFFLES!!!

The dynamic duo of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie, have been the source of much amusement during Marvel press tours and events for the last few years. Now, they not only have their own TV show on the horizon (Falcon And The Winter Soldier, to be released on Disney+), but the internet gods have blessed us all by getting them into a Buzzfeed interview and have them being forced to read “thirst tweets”.
The result is way too short, but it gives a special glimpse into which kind of nuts Sebastian Stan prefers and what exactly Anthony Mackie does to keep the term “America’s Ass” going.

The trailer for The Lighthouse, the new psychological horror film from the directorial mind of Robert Eggers (The VVitch), dropped today!
Starring Willem DaFoe and Robert Pattinson, The Lighthouse tells the story of two lighthouse keepers on a remote and potentially sinister island off the coast of New England in the 1890s. It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May and will have its theatrical release courtesy of A24 starting October 18, 2019!
The trailer has everything — intense, moody performances from DaFoe and Pattinson, a haunting black and white aesthetic, and most importantly, a shot of RPatz punching an octopus!? I am SOLD.

A brand new thriller podcast PassengerList is coming to Radiotopia on September 16.

Kaitlin takes it upon herself to try and uncover the truth about what actually happened to the flight and all the passengers. Rob Benedict, Colin Morgan and Patti LuPone will be joining the cast alongside Tran.
John Scott Dryden and Lauren Shippen co-wrote and co-directed the show, and Mara Wilson and Kevin Rodriguez are among the additional writers. Fans are gearing up for another fan-led casting petition, this time for Supernatural‘s Jensen Ackles to play Cyclops in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Cyclops (real name Scott Summers), is a founding member of X-Men. The superhero is known for being able to expel powerful beams from his eyes, but must use special glasses in order to control the power.
Recently at San Diego Comic-Con, Reviewnation.net gave Jensen a pair of Cyclops glasses to try on, and fans swarmed to the idea. Bosslogic on Instagram also posted an art piece of Jensen as Cyclops which drew attention from Ackles himself, who commented on the photo saying, “…interesting.” There’s a petition going around here.
With Supernatural ending after Season 15, which is set to premiere in October, Ackles could have a clear schedule to make this work. Many fans have longed to see the actor portray a superhero, and this could be a great fit!
