Mike Shinoda Produces 12th Track “Space Boots and Jet Fuel” by Dusty The Stampede Live on Twitch!

0

Starting the second new track of the week, Mike Shinoda jumped in head first into a very different kind of track. This new song, titled “Space Boots and Jet Fuel” by artist Dusty The Stampede, has a unique taste as it’s based on the melding of very different genres of music, namely country and sci-fi/electronic.

Shinoda starts the production stream off as usual, by listening to the original submission.  In this case, Dusty submitted drum and acoustic guitar tracks, along with multiple vocal tracks and a few other sounds. Despite the familiar instruments, it became very apparent very quickly that this song was unlike anything Shinoda had produced on his Twitch channel before.

“I love this [Dusty’s] aesthetic man, this whole vibe, this homemade spaceman … I haven’t done a track like this on the channel … I went through and put a note for each of the structure points [in the song] and I was a little confused about what to call certain parts … while it’s fun to have an unconventional structure, I also think like you don’t just do that for no reason … so we might chop it a little bit, and just try and make more sense out of the parts. But I think the first thing to do is to make some cool parts and if they hold your attention the whole time then great, and if they don’t then we start removing.”

Starting to work on the track, Shinoda first temporarily removed the acoustic guitar, stating that he either needs to mix it more or only bring it into the song at a later point. He also muted the drums before deciding to add tambourine and rerecord the drums. He asked viewers if they thought live drum loops or vintage 606 drum sounds would be better, playing a little of the vintage samples to help viewers choose. Seeing an overwhelming amount of people in the chat choose live drums, he then went into his live room to record them. After a little more fine tuning for the new additions, Shinoda then began to tweak the structure of the song, deciding to change it to go straight into the first verse after the song’s intro and a chorus section. Sticking with Dusty’s unique sound, Shinoda also decided to add a few sci-fi/space tones and effects. Realizing this was a two day job after working on it for over two hours, Shinoda took a break from the track and came back to it the next day on Thursday, February 12 to finish it.

Dusty the Stampede seems to be relatively new on the music scene, but regardless has already carved out a unique sound niche as he experiments with blending country music with different genres. In his own words, Dusty describes himself as, “An astronaut from the year 4,321, writing and performing Sci-Fi country music across the galaxies”. He has released one EP, titled The Astronaut, Vol. 1, which was released in 2020 and currently available on various platforms including Spotify and Apple Music. The original version of “Space Boots and Jet Fuel” can be found on Soundcloud.

If you weren’t able to see Dusty The Stampede’s “Space Boots and Jet Fuel” produced live by Mike Shinoda, you can still watch the Twitch replay below! Make sure to check out Dusty’s music, as well as Shinoda’s previous production sessions. And stay tuned to Shinoda’s Twitch channel weekdays around 10 a.m. PT, as he will be starting on a new song called “Crazy”, written by Sam Champagne and performed by Amber Lee, on Friday, February 12!

‘WandaVision’ – Who Are Billy & Tommy?

WandaVision episode 6 came in hot and we saw a lot more of the twins, Tommy and Billy, than we had in episode 5. The boys are obviously special children, taking on the signature Maximoff powers of Tommy with superspeed and Billy with reality warping, which may be a sign of where the Marvel Cinematic Universe is heading.

Billy and Tommy, in the comics, don’t make it very far … In West Coast Avengers #52, their true origin is revealed and the twins cease to exist before we really learn anything about them, and Wanda forgets them as a result of Agatha Harkness’ spell. Years later, the boys are reborn to the Kaplans.

Marvel

After their rebirth to the Kaplans and Shepherds, the boys become Wiccan (Billy Kaplan) and Speed (Tommy Shepherd). Obviously it would seem that the MCU may be omitting the Kaplans and Shepherds, since their powers manifesting under the care of Wanda and them making it past infancy. However, it definitely points to the imminent arrival of the Young Avengers to the MCU.

The MCU is stacking their Young Avengers team; so far we have Kate Bishop coming from the Hawkeye series, Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, Cassie Lang likely taking up the mantle of Stature in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Riri Williams coming in Iron Heart, America Chavez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and now Wiccan and Speed. Loki is also a possibility, as we don’t yet know where his journey with the Time Variance Authority and the Multiverse will lead him in his upcoming series. It wouldn’t be shocking to see the fan-favorite God of Mischief continue his long tenure in the MCU.

Adding Wiccan and Speed to this team is also the perfect window of opportunity for Marvel to bring in the LBGTQ representation that fans have been wanting for so long, as Wiccan is an openly gay character married to his Young Avengers teammate Hulking, who has the perfect window to be introduced in the upcoming She-Hulk series.

Phase 5 or 6 is shaping up to be all about the Young Avengers, and bringing Wiccan and Speed into it makes it all the more exciting. What this change from the comic storyline means for WandaVision, however, remains to be seen.

The first six episodes of WandaVision are currently streaming on Disney+.

New Photos for ‘Batwoman’ Season 2, Episode 5 “Gore on Canvas” Released

0

Though we’re still a little over one week out from episode 5 of Batwoman‘s second season, The CW has released new photos for the episode, titled “Gore on Canvas.”

The episode description teases a deeper investigation into Kate’s disappearance, as well as the return of Safiyah.

“THE SECRETS UNDERNEATH – Batwoman (Javicia Leslie) is approached by Commander Kane (Dougray Scott) and Agent Moore (Meagan Tandy) to boost an infamous work of art that reveals the way to Coryana – and Kate. Despite her reservations, Luke (Camrus Johnson) and Mary (Nicole Kang) convince Ryan to take the assignment, causing tensions within the Bat-team to escalate.  Meanwhile, as Alice (Rachel Skarsten) attempts to fulfill Safiyah’s (guest star Shivaani Ghai) insidious request, she slowly discovers that she may not remember everything about her time on Coryana. Norma Bailey directed the episode written by Daniel Thomsen (#205).”

The new photos show what seems like a major gala of sorts, where there’s no doubt going to be some sort of action-filled event (as tends to happen during big galas). We also get a look at two of the episode’s guest stars: Nathan Owens and Lincoln Clauss. Check out the full gallery below.

Batwoman will return with episode 4 on Sunday, February 14 at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on The CW. “Gore on Canvas” airs Sunday, February 21. Find our weekly recaps and other coverage for the show here.

Dreams May Come True in Sneak Peek for ‘The Blacklist’ Season 8, Episode 6 “The Wellstone Agency”

0

The time has come, Blacklisters. In episode 6 of The Blacklist, a celebration of life is held for Glen “Jellybean” Carter, who was played by the late Clark Middleton. It’s an ode to Glen, and Clark, that is sure to make fans weepy. Courtesy of Entertainment Tonight, we have a sneak peek! In this clip, Reddington, who is tasked with Glen’s arrangements, is talking to Huey Lewis of Huey Lewis and the News to convince him to come to Glen’s funeral at the DMV. Our favorite part of the clip:

Lewis: “To play the funeral of some guy at the DMV?”
Reddington: “Regional Manager.”

Red’s so proud. Check it out below!

Also occurring in this episode is Aram going undercover, which we briefly talked about before (check that out here). Thanks to TV Pulse Magazine, we’ve learned some interesting moments fans can look forward to. Aram must prove his worthiness to a linguistics organization (who are shady at best), and fans will see him think quickly on his feet while in the field.

Next, Red is at his best! He also has a heart-wrenching moment at the end of the episode that may have you grabbing for tissues. Liz is missing again this week, so a Park and Reddington team up is in order, much to Park’s dismay. She also claims she would “never ask for his help,” but by the looks of the promo, it may come back to bite her.

The Blacklist airs Fridays at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
