Elle King and Miranda Lambert Are Drunk (And Don’t Wanna Go Home) in New Song and Music Video, and You Need To Check It Out ASAP

0

After some teasing social media posts at the beginning of the week, Elle King and Miranda Lambert came through for fans on Friday with the release of their upbeat new song “Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home).”

Written by King and Martin Johnson, this song is Lambert and King’s second collaboration. They previously collaborated on an ACM award winning cover of Elvin Bishop’s “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” along with Maren Morris, Ashley McBryde, Caylee Hammack, and Tenille Townes, all of whom toured together with King and Lambert on Lambert’s 2019 Roadside Bars and Pink Guitars Tour.

This track is more upbeat. It’s a passionate celebration of a night out where all you want to do is drop all your responsibilities and have some fun. With lyrics that highlight King and Lambert’s attitude and music that beautifully spotlights their unique vocals, this song is the ultimate party anthem. And how could it not be with a chorus that shouts:

So bartender, take my keys / What do you want from me / Baby, I’m drunk / And I don’t wanna go home / Not staying in to fight / I’m staying out all night / Baby, I’m drunk and I don’t wanna go home,”

Then, as if the song itself was not amazing enough on its own, the music video that launched simultaneously brings the song to a whole other level.

It takes the pair back to 1986 for King’s wedding day, complete with ’80s wedding attire, big hair, caked on makeup, the whole ’80s shebang. Flashing between King and Lambert as bride and maid of honor and the duet performing at the reception in gorgeously fitted pastel suits, the video tells the story of the slightly trashy wedding from start to finish. Opening with the duo shocking family of the couple by smoking and drinking immediately before the wedding, we get to see Lambert spiking the punchbowl and avoiding her date at every opportunity while the rest of the guests get increasingly drunk and wild.

This video is not only perfectly suited to the song, but highlights King and Lambert’s attitude and style beautifully! If you have yet to check it out, you can watch it now below.

The song is the just what you need to rock out in your apartment and remember the days when this kind of partying was possible, or look forward to when we can party like this again. You can find the song on pretty much every streaming platform, with the whole list available here. So be sure to check it out and let us know what you think.

Junauda Petrus Announces Film Adaptation of ‘The Stars and the Blackness Between Them’

0

Almost two years ago, Junauda Petrus made her stunning YA debut with her novel The Stars and the Blackness Between Them, introducing Audre and Mabel’s love story.

Today, Petrus announced that Audre and Mabel will be making their way to the big screen. In an Instagram post, Petrus revealed that for the past year, she’s been writing a film adaptation of the book. The film is still in the early development stages, but there is currently a yet-to-be-announced director attached, as well a production team.

The Stars and the Blackness Between Them is written from the POVs of both Audre and Mabel, who are both 16. After her religious mother catches her with her girlfriend, Audre is sent away from Trinidad to live with her father, devastated and heart-broken. In Minneapolis, Mabel works through some of her own confusing feelings. She soon learns that her father’s friend and daughter will be joining them for dinner one night, who just so happen to be Audre and her dad. The two girls quickly form a deep bond with one another, and as they grow closer, they learn how to care for and love each other even when everything feels impossible.

The Stars and the Blackness Between Them is a beautifully crafted story, full of sadness, tenderness, and joy. Petrus writes through an open-minded lens, creating two wholly unique characters who can teach everyone a thing or two.

While we still don’t know too much about the upcoming adaptation, there’s no doubt that with Petrus behind the project, the film will be just as beautiful as her book. We can’t wait to see what she has in store.

Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
