Five years after the finale of Supernatural aired, Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins reuinted on-screen for the first time in Prime Video’s The Boys.
Note: if you haven’t watched the episode yet, spoilers are below!
The episode, which debuted on Wednesday, April 29, features Ackles’ Soldier Boy heading to Los Angeles with Homelander (Antony Starr) and they end at Mr. Marathon (Jared Padalecki)’s mansion. There, they encounter a slew of celebrity cameos playing poker: Seth Rogen, Will Forte, Kumail Nanjiani, Christopher Mintz Plasse, and Craig Robinson. Also at the table is Malchemical, portrayed by Misha Collins.
With Solider Boy being a departure for Ackles, the same can obviously be said for Padalecki and Collins’ characters, seeing those actors in roles as we’ve never seen them before. They rose to the occasion, though, and went toe-to-toe with everyone on screen, often making me laugh or gasp at the things their characters said or did. The only negative part is that we didn’t see more of them.
There were a few Supernatural easter eggs sprinkled through, mainly a “So, get this,” from Padalecki’s Mr. Marathon as he went into telling a story to Solider Boy, a clear nod to Sam Winchester, who used that line frequently.
There was one point where all three were bantering back and forth, and I can’t say I didn’t get a swell of emotion as I watched them all interact on-screen for the first time in years.
With various cameos from Supernatural sprinkled throughout the series run of The Boys and Gen V, it was great to see Padalecki, Ackles, and Collins all together. We hope it won’t be long before we see them in something else together again.
You can watch the episode now on Prime Video.
