Ben Barnes Releases New Song “Beloved” and Music Video
Ben Barnes has done it again! After his wildly successful first EP, Songs For You, was released in 2021 fans have been clamoring for new music. One thing about Barnes is that he will take the time to make something worth waiting for. “Beloved” is the first single from his upcoming album Where The Light Gets In.
Fans have been anticipating this release, with several teasers posted on the actor/singer’s social media. “Beloved” has lived up to the hype! Beginning the song with a quote from Charles Dickens’s Great Expectations, “I loved her against reason, against promise…” The song then moves into his signature style. Barnes showcases his ability to write a simple lyric in a way that touches the listener’s heart deeply. While listening to this song the tears began to flow and it felt like Ben Barnes was giving me a therapy session about allowing myself to be loved by others.
Speaking of therapy, that is the exact route Barnes decided to go down in the “Beloved” music video. The video stars Barnes as a therapist with Camilla Belle as the patient. Barnes’ character is trying to help Belle’s character break free of the confines she has placed upon herself. Viewers see Belle sitting on a couch with darker colors present and confining clothes. The song conveys that when we love others we often try to make ourselves what we think the other wants us to be. This is said perfectly with the lyrics, “Your heart is beating to match mine.”
Throughout the video, he tells her to let go and let herself be loved as she is. A little bit at a time we see the characters shed their layers and color is brought into the video. The sentiment of making ourselves fit a mold set by others is felt by so many. Watching Belle’s character finally release herself and the celebration afterward was so cathartic. Barnes will always produce a song and video that is so heartfelt and lets the listener know they aren’t alone in the things they feel and experience. Please watch the “Beloved” music video below!
