The final day of Netflix’s 2023 Geeked Week has showcased the newest trailer for Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon: Part One — A Child of Fire. The trailer first aired during America’s Game of the Week matchup between the NY Giants and the Dallas Cowboys and wraps up the Geeked Week announcements. In addition to the new trailer, a new poster for the film was revealed earlier this week with the tagline “There are no heroes. Only rebels.”
The synopsis for A Child of Fire reads:
“A peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius. They dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past named Kora to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand.”
The film stars Sofia Boutella as Kora, a rebel soldier who prefers to work alone who has found a community on Veldt, the colony mentioned in the synopsis. With Veldt under the threat of the Imperium, particularly by Ed Skrein’s Atticus Noble and Fra Fee’s Regent Balisarius, Kora has to seek out fighters from neighboring planets to stand against the tyrannical empire.
The group of fighters comes to include Michiel Huisman as Veldt farmer Gunnar, Charlie Hunnam as the mercenary Kai, Djimon Hounsou as ex-Imperium general Titus, Staz Nair as former nobleman Tarak, Doona Bae as cyborg sword-fighter Nemesis, E. Duffy as refugee Milius, Ray Fisher and Cleopatra Coleman as Darrian and Devra Bloodaxe the insurgent siblings, and the iconic voice of Anthony Hopkins lended to knightly robot Jimmy.
Snyder describes Rebel Moon’s central characters as misfits who are “all healing and finding a place to belong.”
Rebel Moon was originally conceptualized by Snyder as a potential Star Wars feature over a decade ago and is also inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai. In addition to directing, Snyder penned the script with 300′s Kurt Johnstad and Army of the Dead scribe Shay Hatten and also serves as the director of photography.
The two-part sci-fi epic will continue April 19, 2024 with Rebel Moon: Part Two — The Scargiver.
