‘The Iron Claw’: A24 Releases Trailer for Wrestling Film Based on The Von Erichs

A24 today released the trailer for Sean Durkin’s upcoming film The Iron Claw based on the story of one of the most iconic wrestling families to ever step foot inside of a ring — the Von Erichs.

The trailer introduces the family and sees the brothers — Kevin (Zac Efron), Kerry (Jeremy Allen White), David (Harris Dickinson) — early beginnings wrestling for their dad Fritz Von Erich’s (Holt McCallany) promotion WCCW. “Mom tried to protect us with God. Pop tried to protect us with wrestling,” Efron’s Kevin says, “He said if we were the toughest, the strongest, nothing could ever hurt us. I believed him. We all did.”

The Iron Claw follows the famous wrestling dynasty that heralded the wrestling industry in the 1960s that has suffered immeasurable loss throughout their time inside the ring and out. Often referred to as the “Von Erich curse,” Kevin was the only one of his siblings who survived, living to continue the legacy of his family and tell their stories from a first-hand account. “Through tragedy and triumph, under the shadow of their domineering father and coach, the brothers seek larger-than-life immortality on the biggest stage in sports,” the synopsis reads.

Professional wrestlers are in the film as well, including Chavo Guerrero Jr. who plays The Sheik, Ryan Nemeth who plays Gino Hernandez, and AEW World Champion Maxwell Friedman who plays Lance Von Erich, the fictional Von Erich cousin.

The Iron Claw releases in theaters on December 22.
