Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first trailer for the upcoming Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prequel, Wonka. The film stars Timothée Chalamet in the titular role and is helmed by Paddington director Paul King.

While there are currently multiple adaptations of the characters pulled from the beloved 1964 Roald Dahl novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, this film aims to take a different approach. Wonka will center around the eccentric candy inventor Willy Wonka, with Chalamet bringing a younger look to the character than viewers have seen in the past. Wonka serves as a prequel, following Wonka in his formulative years before his chocolate factory dreams came true.

Starring alongside Chalamet are Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, Mathew Baynton, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carter, and Olivia Colman. The cast for Wonka also includes Natasha Rothwell, Rich Fulcher, Rakhee Thakrar, Tom Davis, and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith.

Wonka is directed by King from a screenplay he co-wrote with Simon Farnaby, based on a story by King and characters created by Dahl. Michael Siegel, Cate Adams, Rosie Alison and Tim Wellspring serve as executive producers on the film. The creative team includes director of photography Chung-Hoon Chung, production designer Nathan Crowley, editor Mark Everson, costume designer Lindy Hemming, and composer Joby Talbot, with Neil Hannon of the band The Divine Comedy writing original songs for the film.
