Sony Pictures Classics has released the first teaser for Carmen, the dark musical starring Paul Mescal and Melissa Barrera.

Based on the classic opera of the same name, Carmen tells the story of the titular heroine (Barrera) as she makes her way across the U.S. border with Mexico after the murder of her mother. Along the way, she encounters a brutal, rogue border guard and Aidan (Mescal), a Marine with PTSD who helps her escape. As they both run from the law, they grow closer as tragedy strikes. Rossy de Palma, The D.O.C., Benedict Hardie, Richard Brancatisano, and Elsa Pataky also star. Director Benjamin Millepied also wrote the screenplay with Alexander Dinelaris and Loïc Barrère.

The film includes original songs by Nicholas Britell (who also composed the score), Taura Stinson, The D.O.C., and Julieta Venegas. It will receive a limited release on April 21, with a wider release date to be announced. You can watch the teaser below!
