Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay are once again stepping into the ring one-on-one.

At Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4, Omega will challenge Ospreay for the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship. Omega laid out the challenge during the NJPW X STARDOM Historic X-Over event.

In the promo, Omega said once AEW was created, there was nothing keeping him in NJPW. Ospreay was supposed to replace him but Omega blames him for the lack of cheering and the smaller crowds. He also stated when he got the call from NJPW, he wasn’t particularly excited for the match, but he’s willing to do it for the sake of the fans and a good professional wrestling match.

The last time Omega wrestled in NJPW was Wrestle Kingdom 13 in 2019, facing Hiroshi Tanahashi for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, which he dropped on his way out of the company. Ospreay successfully defended the IWGP Heavyweight Championship against a returning Shota Umino at Sunday’s event.
