The 74th annual Emmy Awards took place this evening, and following a whopping total of 20 nominations, Apple’s hit sports comedy series Ted Lasso ultimately brought home four awards!

  • Comedy Series
  • Lead Actor in a Comedy Series – Jason Sudeikis
  • Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series – Brett Goldstein
  • Directing for a Comedy Series – MJ Delaney, “No Weddings and a Funeral”

Of the show’s seven wins at the 2021 Emmy Awards, in addition to winning Comedy Series, Sudeikis and Goldstein also won Lead and Supporting Actor, respectively.

Ted Lasso follows the story of a small-time college football coach (portrayed by Jason Sudeikis) from Kansas who’s hired to coach a professional soccer team in England, despite the fact that he knows next to nothing about the sport. However, what he lacks in experience, he makes up for with his neverending enthusiasm, his Ted-isms, and his penchant for baking damn good biscuits.

The series has been met with critical acclaim since its 2020 premiere, sweeping across award shows left and right. If you still have friends, family, or perhaps mortal enemies that you haven’t yet convinced to “Believe” — let us help you.

A third season of Ted Lasso is in the works, and seasons 1 and 2 are streaming exclusively on Apple TV+. Check out our season 2 review here.
