The cats are out of the bag — Netflix has released an additional episode for season 1 of The Sandman.
The eleventh episode is a two-part tale, featuring the stories “A Dream of a Thousand Cats” and “Calliope”. In the 64-minute episode, a siamese cat dreams of a new world and a writer in desperate need of inspiration crosses paths with Morpheus.
“Dream of a Thousand Cats/Calliope” is adapted from The Sandman comic arc Dream Country, which spans issues 17-20. In the comics, Dream Country also features “The Doll’s House” tale, which is adapted in episodes 7-10 of the series. The episode adds an additional depth to the series as it features the first animated story for the series, with Dutch animator Hisko Hulsing serving as director and production designer.
The episode features guest stars Sandra Oh, James McAvoy, David Tennant, and Michael Sheen. The star-studded voiceover cast also includes the creator himself Neil Gaiman as Crow/Skull Bird. The full cast list for the episode can be found here.
