The nominees for the 74th annual Emmy Awards were announced today, recognizing achievements in television from June 1, 2021 through May 31, 2022. Decorated actor Oscar Isaac has finally received his very first Emmy nomination this year for his performance in HBO’s limited series Scenes From a Marriage.
Isaac has been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series.
Scenes From a Marriage, which is written, directed, and executive produced by Hagai Levi, is a modern adaptation of Ingmar Bergman’s classic Swedish miniseries. It follows the story of Mira (Jessica Chastain), a confident, ambitious tech executive left unfulfilled by her marriage, and Jonathan (Oscar Isaac), an accommodating, hyper-intellectual philosophy professor desperate to keep their relationship intact. The series flips the script on traditional gender roles to explore love, hatred, desire, monogamy, marriage, and divorce through the lens of a contemporary American couple. Isaac’s Emmy nod for his performance in this series comes as no surprise, as his portrayal of Jonathan is an emotional, heartbreaking, and harrowing affair.
